SYNOPSIS
butterfly rising

VALOR ARLERT WAS NOT SPECIAL. Not in her mind, anyway. She had an average childhood, an only child for most of her youth. Her mother and father doted on her, their daughter, their firstborn, like she was the most spectacular girl in the world. Her grandfather taught her patience, strength, and fueled the fire inside of her, fanning the flames of curiosity with every story of the outside world.

     Her kind nature captivated the people of her village, most all developing a soft spot for the social butterfly. Even in her youth, Valor was kind and headstrong. She protected those around her, fighting for what was right with short arms and a scrawny frame.

     But Valor had never felt true purpose. Not until Armin was born.

     Valor had never thought of what her life would amount to. There was no plan for when she got older, no real ideas of what she wanted to do or who she wanted to be. And then Armin was born, and it was like the final piece of the puzzle. Everything had fallen into place. She knew exactly who she was, and what she was meant to do.

She was going to protect Armin, at any cost necessary.

And so she did. She chased away any bullies that approached him, learned how to throw a mean punch and took a few, too. Her duty took her to the Cadet Corps, and eventually to the Scouts.

There, she met humanity's strongest soldier. He was quiet, stern, and often seemed emotionless. But they formed a bond over their determination and interest in the outside world.

Levi had spent a life underground. When he finally got out, he met a butterfly with paper thin wings that would eventually change the world around her.
