It was a cold day when the truth was revealed to her. A horrible, pain filled day. The father that raised her, fed her, clothed her, loved her. The man who ultimately died for her, was not her father.
It felt as though she had her heart ripped out of her chest.
And Strucker watched in glee as the last signs of defiance vanished from her dark green eyes. Glossy with the unshed tears she knew he was waiting for.
But he wouldn't get it.
He'd never get anything from her ever again.
She remembers learning the truth.
The truth about her family, about herself. About her siblings.
It was a cold day, and her heart was hurting.
It hurt even more now.
The weather didn't fit the mood of the day.
It was his funeral. It should be raining or cloudy but it wasn't. The sun was shining high in the sky, shining down on the freshly covered soil.
And deep within the soil, an empty coffin. Sokovia too destroyed to retrieve anything.
So, Pietro was buried with their city. With their childhood. With their home.
Lorna wanted to cry. She really did. As the priest recited his prayers, as Wanda held onto Lorna like she was her lifeline. Lorna wanted to let go of everything.
But she couldn't. Even when she tried, nothing came out.
It was as if she was paralyzed. There was nothing . . . but emptiness.
Not for the fact she wasn't sad - she was devastated. A piece of her was missing. A third of her heart had died with Pietro. Her soul was broken.
Lorna had glared at the sun, not caring of the spots that appeared in her vision. Glared at the meaning. It brings life, other people enjoy the heat of its rays. So why of all days, when they're saying goodbye, does it get to shine? When it doesn't get to smile down on Pietro? How is it fair?
