Listening

I listen and I listen and I listen-

To your sorrows and pain-

the endlessness that traps you-

the two connected by a chain.

I listen and I listen and I listen-

but I do not say-

that I feel exactly the same way.

That chain holds my tongue-

words lodged in my throat.

Camouflaging everything I feel-

Into a mask-

A face in the mirror-

A face I do not recognize.

The chain holds my tongue-

But not my eyes-

Those baby blues, flicker sorrow.

I listen and I listen and I listen-

But you do not, and I don't speak any longer-

And you say you can not live without me.

Yet I cannot say the same to you-

Without everything erupting from every surface-

The fire of my feelings combusting-

Turning you and your beautiful heart to ash-

For your heart is not like mine-

Forged of stone, no yours-

Beautiful and fragile, could never be touched-

By me, by the pain of my soul.

I listen and I listen and I listen-

To you, to allow you some freeing feeling-

A free feeling that I won't feel.
