The whole of next morning I spent in the saloon falling asleep on my job, still recovering from a whopping 3 hours of sleep the previous night had provided. At around 2:00pm Whitey came in and sat at the bar.
"Good afternoon" he said smiling.
"Hey" I answered taking my head off of the counter where I was napping.
"You look tired" he said
"I'm drowsy" I said yawning
Whitey smiled and rubbed the back of his neck.
"I will have some strong coffee please" he said smiling and I started making it. The sun shown through the glass windows of the saloon and the weather was dry, Whitey walking in felt like a breath of fresh air. A couple of minutes in, a middle aged woman wearing trousers walked into the room, she sat down next to Whitey and they started talking about nothing in particular. I put Whitey's coffee down in front of him and the woman said:
"What's your name?"

"Sophie" I said and politely smiled. As soon as I said that she looked at Whitey and started chuckling.

"She's pretty" she said to Whitey while stifling laughter.

"Thanks?" I said looking confused.
Whitey was chuckling.

"Thanks for the coffee Princess" Whitey said still smiling. I punched his arm.

"What was that for?"he said while holding his arm pretending I hurt him.

"I have a name you know" I said raising my brows. The woman burst out into laughter.

Whitey looked me up and down and said "Damn"

The woman stopped laughing for a second to get out a few words in "Now I know why you like her" she said and continued laughing.

"Mary Agnes!" Whitey said with surprise on his face

"Mary Agnes?...Are you the previous sheriff's sister?" I guessed with what little bit of La Belle history Mr.Raymond told me.

"That's me." She said lifting her chin up.
"Oh, and I'll take a pint" she added and I began to get a glass. After I set it down Louis walked in. He sat down between Whitey and Mary Agnes.

"How'd you sleep?" He asked raising his brows and
smirking

"I think you know" I said.

Whitey and Mary Agnes both froze and looked at me. Louis started laughing. I hadn't realized what I had insinuated.

"I- I- I mean because you and I have - uhm- hotel room right beside each-uhm- each other." I hoped they had bought it...especially Whitey.

Whitey looked at me and furrowed his brows. He was clearly suspecting something.

"What do you want Louis?" I asked desperately trying to fill the awkward silence

"I would like some scotch" he said nodding his head

"it's 2pm" I said confrontationally.

"Oh, right; then I will have some tea" he said as if he wasn't aware of the time.

"Scotch, 2pm? You really are the sheriffs son" Mary Agnes said under her breath as I prepared the tea.

"Actually I'm not" he said nodding his head and staring off in the distance.

"What?" Whitey said confused

"The sheriff only said that because he was under the influence and didn't understand what he was saying" Louis said matter of factly.

"Nice save" I scoffed under my breath.

"What?" Louis said looking at me as i turned around.
