Checkmate

182 28 50

It's three in the morning--
And I'm thinking 'bout longing,
Don't know what it's all about.
Guess no time in the world's gonna help me figure it out.

Been long years since you left
Me with the sinful smile, chocolate gaze and strawberry breath.
Thought I was well past it,
Past the way we used to fight,
Over all the equations that'd gone right-
Till we turned them to wrong,
Ended up in broken reactions,
    Chained by a fading song.

     Now it's just not fair,
That you walk into my head like that,
Like you've owned my dreams right from the start!
So unfair,
That I still fancy you in my heart,
Shame on me for letting down my guard
and giving a tad little of too much.

   Are we in love?
No, we are enemies.
Everytime we touch
We fade like swirling mists.
It's so good that it hurts
When we pull in just to hate
Cause everytime we make a move
We give each other the-- checkmate.

It's four in the morning--

And you're down alone, wondering,
Why you miss the one who gave you these feelings-
Guess no time in the world's gonna heal 'em.

Been long years since I couldn't finish that goodbye,
And you're taking shots for every future one that passes by...
     Downtown, under the street lights,
Remember the wild ride that broke us overnight?
Yeah, I do stare at the starlight,
When the memories come back to bite-
Haunting my mind with our inflated egoistic fights.

Nah, now it's just not fair!
That you waltz into my life like that,
Knowing we've always danced with our hands tied back.
So unfair!
That you allure me with tempting words--
Shame on me for letting down my guard
and giving in to the wreckage of my heart.

   Are we in love?
No, we are enemies.
Everytime we touch
We fade like swirling mists.
It's so good that it hurts
When we pull in just to hate
Cause everytime we make a move
We're giving each other the-- checkmate.

It's five in the morning,
Why can't we stop swimming,
In the webbed sea of what we need?

Lay wide awake, eyes dancing with emotions
Gears in the head tuning into motion--

Oh, it's six in the morning,
Now we're waking up from this moon-kissed dream.

THE SONGWRITER'S WORDS :-

    HEY THERE!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR CHECKING OUT THIS SONG/POEM.
I WROTE THIS WHEN I WAS THINKING ABOUT THE COSMOS AND MY FAVOURITE SONGS LATE PAST MIDNIGHT (Because, why not?! *grins*), AND CERTAIN MEMORIES JUST DECIDED TO STRUT INTO MY MIND OUT OF THE BLUE, UNKNOWINGLY, UNWITTINGLY--- SURPRISING ME TO AN EXTENT.
AT THAT MOMENT, I HAD BEEN LIKE, "DANG! IT'S NOT FAIR THAT THEY JUST BARGE IN LIKE THAT!"

AAAAND VOILA--- THIS SONG POPPED UP.

IF YOU ENJOYED AND RELATED TO THIS PIECE OF WRITING (even in the slightest), DON'T FORGET TO MAKE THE STAR GLOW BY VOTING AND DO COMMENT YOUR THOUGHTS!
I'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU!

-Love, Kay ❤
