Elva POV

"Can I go with Jennie after school?" I asked Miss Thomas nicely.

"Elva no I'm sorry, Maya said your social worker was collecting you today.

I sighed and went back to play with Molly.

"Why aren't you walking with Jennie?" She asked me.

I shrugged.

"I've got to go meet some people," I said.

"Who?"

"I don't know them but Maya and Carina said I can have a treat for going," I told her.

"What treat?" She asked excitedly.

"I don't know yet,"

"Ask for something good so you can brag to Lewis," she laughed.

I felt butterflies in my tummy all day.

I just wanted mommy or mama.

I wanted them to get me from school.

The bell went for the rest of the day and I got my bag ready. I saw Jane waiting on the playground.

She waved me over.

"Let's go," she said seriously.

"Where are we going?" I asked.

"The park," she answered.

It wasn't far away. I didn't ask anymore questions on the way.

When we got there, I could see two people waiting. As we got closer, I could see their faces.

The lady's face didn't look soft like Maya's and her hair wasn't long and shiny like Carina's.

"Good afternoon, this is Elva," Jane said when we reached them. She put a hand on my back and nudged me forward.

I kept looking down at the grass. There were little white flowers, like the ones mama used to make daisy chains with me when we came to the park.

"I'm Becky and this is my husband Jonathan," the lady said.

I didn't move. I couldn't.

"Elva don't be rude," Jane snapped.

"Why don't we head over to the play area?" Becky suggested.

"That sounds fun doesn't it Elva?" Jane said but it sounded fake.

"Come on Elva, the swings are waiting," the man said, he moved closer and gripped my wrist. He pulled me in the direction of the swings.

"No," I said, trying to pull away.

I got out of his grip and looked at Jane.

"I want mommy and mama," I begged.

"Maya and Carina aren't mommy and mama yet Elva, you need to give this a go," she said, but she didn't sound like normal. She sounded like she felt sorry for me.

"Please," I cried.

"Come on Elva, we've waited ages to meet you," Becky said moving closer to me.

I took a step back.

"Let's go on the swings," she said, grabbing me like Jonathan did, but this time her nails stuck into my arm.

She pulled me over to the swings and made me sit on one.

She pulled the swing back and pushed me forward. She pushed it too hard. It was going too high.
