Charles Leclerc was born on the 16th of October 1997 in Monte Carlo, Monaco, the second of 3 children his parents would have. His father was Hervé Leclerc and his mother is Pascale Leclerc. While growing up in Monaco, his father, Hervé, would take him to racing games and even introduced him to karting at the young age of 3½.

When Charles Leclerc was just 4, he had seen his first Monaco Grand Prix at the comfort of his own window at Sainte-Devote. One day, he had fell ill and took a day off of school, instead of staying in, he asked his father to go karting at the race-track owned by his god father, Jules Bianchi, he raced until the fuel ran out.

Karting had become a part of Charles' life especially during 2005-2010 where he had dominated the various karting classes that he had competed in.

His career peaked in 2011 when he was sponsored by Nicholas Todt, the son of FIA president Jean Todt, this enabled him to continue karting without putting financial burden on his family. This was also made so that Charles wouldn't have been far away from his god father, Jules Bianchi, as they were both under the Todt driver management - All Road Management company.
