James pov

We decided to do the prank on the next Monday, we wouldn't be prepared today. I didn't see Lyra at breakfast, I didn't see her yesterday at the dinner either. I'm worried about her. I want to be there for her.

She looks very tired. I have to talk to her. After Potions.

~~~~~
"I didn't want to talk about this in Potions." I said as soon we were alone.
"What's wrong?" She nodded at me.
"What's wrong? I should be asking you that. You weren't at dinner yesterday, today you didn't come to breakfast. You seem really tired. Did you even sleep? You weren't talking the whole class and it looked like you were about to cry." I started.
"I'm not five James, I can take care of myself." She rolled her eyes.
"And that's where you're wrong. If you took care of yourself, you would actually sleep and eat." I crossed my arms.
"Stop being so worried about me, your not my fucking parent!" She raised her voice.
"But I'm your boyfriend and it pains me to see you like that!" I argued.
"Then stop looking at me! I'm completely fine, worry about yourself and not me. It's fucking annoying!" She pushed me. "Lyra, you don't eat! Lyra, are you alright?" She started mocking me. "I'm fucking fine! I don't need your help, I don't need you! I don't need anyone, so stop caring about me, I'm fine on my own!" She then yelled. This isn't a normal outburst, I think she really means it this time.
"I only want to help you, Lyra! I don't know what makes you act like this, but you're not alone!" I wouldn't let her leave.
"You wouldn't understand." She dryly laughed. "You don't know what it feels like when you lost someone you love, so that's where you're wrong. I am alone!" She left after that.
~~~~~

It can't be her mom's death anniversary, it would be in newspapers and I don't think she'd be able to be in classes. It has to be soon. I have to find Amelia.

~~~~~
There she is. She is talking to her friends.
"Amelia." I tapped on her shoulder.
"Yess?... Oh, James. What do you need?" She smiled.
"Can we talk somewhere more private? It's urgent."
"Of course."
~~~~~

"So, what do you need?" She asked.

"It's about Lyra. When did her mum dird?"

"Twenty forth of February, this Thursday. Did something happen?"

"I.. yeah. I've noticed she hasn't been eating and sleeping, so I wanted to know what's wrong. I was kinda... mad at her for doing this to herself. She said she doesn't need anyone and that I don't know how it feels to lose someone. I mean, I really don't know that, but I don't want her to deal with all of it by herself. I want to be there for her, but she won't let me." I sighted.

"She is always distant around this time of the year. She has nightmares and loses appetite. She just wants to be alone, on her own. That's how she copes with it. I've always tried to talk with her about it, but she just didn't let me either. You know her, she doesn't want to "bother" other people with her problems. I don't think she'd tell me about the IED thing any time soon if I didn't make her." She explained. "But maybe she'd talk to you."

"You've been bestfriends for... forever. I don't think I'll be the one she'll open up to about this." I said. She dry laughed. "What?" I frowned at her.

"You're so blind, James. Who was the first person she talked to about her anger issues?... Right, you... I don't know how you did it, because she doesn't trust people, but she trust you so much. You're the one she'll come to if something's wrong. You're special to her. I don't know how to explain it. It doesn't make sense. She literally hated you at the beginning of the year. I really don't know what did you do to change her mind, but right now you're the closest one to her. It's ironic. And to be honest, I'm a little bit jealous it's not me, but I'm glad she finally found someone she talks to about these important things. So don't underestimate yourself and go talk to her."

"Wow, that was very motivating and inspiring. Don't you wanna write some motivational quotes? I bet you'd be good at it." I joked.

"..... I've just told you that you basically have a special place in Lyra's heart and you say I should write motivational quotes. I.... Oh my God." She said in disbelief.

"I only wanted to lighten the situation. You were to dramatic." I smirked.

"You know what? I'm just gonna go." She turned on her heel.

"Wait. There's one other thing." I stopped her. She turned around and nodded at me so I would speak.

"Do you know with whom is she having detention today?" I asked.

"She said with Professor Longbottom." She thought.

"Okay, do you have any idea where he is?"

"No.. oh he's there." She pointed behind me.

"And can I borrow your water." I looked at the bottle she was holding. She just handed it to me. "Thanks." I lightly smiled and went to Longbottom.

I tap on his shoulder. He turned around. "Mister Potter, what do-" I threw the water at him.

"Will you give me a detention?" I then asked.

"Yes?"

"Thanks, have a nice day." He was so confused.

~~~~~
Why did I spend all my previous school years pranking Lyra? Why did we have to be rivals? I could've have her for so much longer. On the other side, she wouldn't like me, I was a dick back in the fifth year. But how could I be so blind and not see what a gorgeous person she is. I mean, she has always been gorgeous, nobody can deny that, but now I notice the details. Her beautiful silver eyes with a little bit of blue, it's like there's a storm going on. It's impossible not to get lost in them. The way she smiles, it's just.... I can't even put it into words. I love making her laugh because for those few seconds, I made her happy and seeing her happy, it makes me happy. And now I have to make her laugh. She deserves to be happy more than anyone.
"You'll help Miss Malfoy replant some flowers, okay?" Longbottom said to me.
"Yes, sir."
"If you need help with anything, just come here. I suppose you know where the greenhouse is, Miss Malfoy's already there."
