It Started With Detention ( Revised!)

Sorry i'm late I didn't wanna come.

The classroom is full, desks empty while the brunette teacher stands behind his. Button up shirt with normal teacher pants. Posters on the walls talking about traveling and following school rules? Check. Oh and there's even a pencil sharpener when you want to get lectured for using it.
"Alright class, hold your horses" the teacher grabs the class's attention. "Don't sit down quite yet or else you'll be playing a game of musical chairs by yourself"

"What kind of thing is 'hold your horses'?" Dick mutters to his best friend, "It totally lacks the aster"
Wally gives him a look, "Like you're one to talk? You literally just used the word aster"
Dick shrugs, "Makes more sense than telling someone to hold their horses"
"Stand around, stand around, try to be quiet enough to hear your own name guys" The teacher pleads, he stands in front of a chalkboard with a tired face and shrugged posture.

Groans echoed around the classroom and mutter of complaint followed, the teacher groans running a hand across his face before grabbing his mini mallet and hitting it against the gong.
The class went silent and some looked confused at the teacher's approach to silence them.

"Well that's new" Wally whispers to dick.
"He's supposed to be this new teacher from Arizona," dick responds.
"Alright in the front row we have Anna, Harry, Conner, and Mal"
The said students shuffle to their seats, doom on their faces for being put in the front row.

Conner grumbles, patting Kaldur on the shoulder as he passes, muttering "Good luck".
"And next row we have Dick-" snickers go around the room and the teacher rolls his eyes, "Kids" he sighs. "Dick, Zatanna, Megan, and Jake"
Dick grins and sits behind Conner whilst the former sighs a sarcastic 'great'.

"And in the third row we have Wally-" the teacher pauses as the redhead rushes to the seat behind Dick, who gives him a high five. "Right, ok. Third row, Wally, Raquel, Kaldur, and Artemis"
Raquel takes a seat next to Wally and Kaldur sits next to her.

The teacher looks at the kids, "No Artemis?". When no one replies he goes to mark the girl absent when the raven-haired girl sitting next to Dick raises her hand and says, "Wait!"
The teacher looks up, "Yes?..uh" he falls short for her name.

The girl sits up a little straighter, "Zatanna. Weird name I know. I guess my family has a thing for Z names, you should hear my great grandma's name, now that's a mouthful-" her rambling is cut off by the teacher's signaling hand.
"As much as I'd love to hear your family name origins Zatanna, I can't help but feel you are stalling me for your tardy friend"
The class looks back and forth between the teacher and student.

Dick watches the girl flush and rambles for something to say, "What? Me, never sir, I uh-"
For some reason Dick decides to help the girl out, "But the real question is, is her friend really tardy if time is irrelevant?" he questions.
A scoffing laugh is heard from next to Wally, "Boy, you took that straight from Spiderman into the spider-verse" the girl accuses.
Other kids including Conner, Zatanna, Wally, Megan, and Kaldur laugh.

Dick blushes and ironically Zatanna saves him this time, "It's not a bad movie. Jake Johnson's always hilarious"
The usually quiet Megan pipes up, "I loved him in New Girl!"
"Class! That's enough! Now unless I'm mistaken Artemis is not here-" The teacher tells, quieting the chatting groups.

"Then you truly are mistaken sir" A new voice comes out, they all turn to see a blonde girl straightening out her jacket, clutching her right arm a little.
"Dude how'd you do that?!" Dick blurts out
The teacher looks an inch away from quitting, sighing in defeat and motioning his hand, "Raquel, Kaldur scooch down a seat. Artemis since you seem to be here, take your seat next to Wallace"
Conner and Dick snicker as Wally goes red
Artemis approaches her desk, a walking space between Wally's seat, smirking a little. Kaldur notices her tough exterior and tired stance, messy ponytail, and leather jacket paired with jeans and a band t-shirt.

Wally also notices the t-shirt and grins, "Teenage Dirtbag?" he mocks. Confidence levels too high for his own good.
Artemis smirk doesn't falter and if anything grows as she plops into her seat, a run-down backpack falling under her chair, "Wallace?"
Wally's grin falls fast as a flash and he scowls. Dick snickers and mutters, "I like her"

"While some of you probably haven't noticed, we are all in our seats now so let us do introductions shall we?" the teacher cuts back in. "My name is Calvin, you can call me Calvin."
Mal doesn't bother raising his hand and asks out loud, "Why cuz you're a 'cool teacher'?" Some collective giggles go around the room.
Calvin just smiles, sitting behind his desk, "Nah, cause I don't think half of you could spell or even pronounce my last name"

Mal sits back defeated while others share impressive looks.
"Alright, I slept through 3 alarms and spilled my coffee in my car." he explains, "So, today we are gonna call an adjustment day. Don't do anything crazy cause I will still give detention on the first day. Sleep, draw, talk, or whatever." Calvin orders as he opens his book and pulls out a bottled coffee from his desk.

Dick who always seems to be grinning, turns around to face Wally "Truth or Dare?"
Wally groans putting his hands in his face, "No" he moans.
Dick pouts, "You're no fun". He then turns back around to Conner, "Hey Con-"
"No."
"But I didn't even say anything!"
"no."

Dick pouts again and looks around for someone to ask, silently cursing Wally for being right about their lack of friends.
Besides him the black-haired girl is searching through her bag for something, neat papers tucked into folders with the care of a mother tucking her child in.

"pssst"
The girl turns to him with a curious expression, "What?"
"Have you always gone here?" he asks
She looks offended and opens her mouth to tell him exactly why when he realizes his bluntness and flusters, "No! Sorry, god that's not what I meant! I- I just" he sighs, "I haven't seen you around and I don't know how I couldn't know you?" he groans, "Sorry that wasn't very nonchalant"

She fades into an amused smile, "No, it's okay be as chalant as you'd like"
Behind them they hear a groan, "God, it's a match made in heaven!" when they both blush, Wally grins "Oh someone's definitely feeling the aster".
The two raven-haired kids go scarlet and Wally laughs. Dick sends him his best glare as he does his best not to stare at the girl beside him.
It's hard not to think, he thinks, her cheeks are rosy and eyebrows, not the standard straight which he thinks is kind of amazing, and her nose has a cute bump on her side profile.

"Hey Juliet, do you have the wraps?" the sarcastic voice brings him out of his trance. What the heck this isn't a cheesy Wattpad story he scolds.
All three of them turn to Artemis, with her knowing smirk and an outstretched hand.
Zatanna scowls at the nickname from her blonde friend but digs through her bag again and grabs the item, forcing it into the other girl's hand.
"Thanks, Zee" Artemis grins, fixing her posture to take off her leather jacket and hiding, well failing, to hide a grimace.

A galaxy of dancing purples and blue hues show off on her toned arms and she takes the wraps with care, wrapping them around her arms.
"Hey, have you ever seen this guy on youtub-"
"The one who does magic on a canoe?!"
Zee and Dick seem to have drifted into a conversation, making Wally feel like a third wheel, so he looks to the girl beside him and frowns at the deep bruises.

She pays no attention to him, frustrated at the bandage's lack of will to tie around and stay put.
With some mind debate, Wally grabs the end piece of her band, and she's frightened and gives a startled and defensive, "Hey!"
He just rolls his eyes and ties it easily, raising an eyebrow at her scowling face.
She glares, "Thanks carrot top" her glare changing into a smirk at his frown at the nickname.
"No problem, Ms. Thing" he challenges, smirking back.

The staring contest was interrupted by the bell ringing.
He got up and walked out with dick, but he wondered what it was about Artemis that made him so defensive and challenging?
