Damn. I can't believe some old lady just kicked me out of my house. She's suffering!! Being her mate, I should be in there right now!

No, I hate to admit it but she's right. You know you can't choose to bond with her right now, she's not ready. Skylar is only 15 and still too young. Ugh, but how am I supposed to wait another decade for her to turn 17!? (Skylar actually turns 16 this year, her birthday hasn't passed yet) I know I proposed the deal with her to pretend like everything is normal, because obviously it's for her own good! But this is getting absurdly difficult.

I kicked at the short, rough grass as if I was kicking a soccer ball, then continue to pace back and forth around the front road of the house. My lips curl inward from anxiousness. Neighbor's kids who are playing on their yards are starting to stare at me. I must look stupid contemplating here.

Deciding then to start up my car and get my ass out of here before the little boogers ask me to join them. I crank up the AC because it's getting scorching hot all of a sudden. Okay, let's just find a place to go and distract myself from Skylar. If I keeping thinking about her it'll only tempt me to stay.

Reversing from the parking space I take a quick glance into the side view mirror.

"Ah shit."

Instantly, I  slam my foot down on the breaks and the car comes into an abrupt stop. A loud honk behind me, due to how close the car was, bursted through my eardrums. They roll down their driver side window as I stick my head out also to inspect behind. No damage done. I'm all good.

"Oh- MY-
WATCH where you're going you FUCK!! You almost murdered me along with my bird!" Chance , who was originally trying to pull into the driveway, hollered.

Thank god it wasn't someone else-

And pfft, "bird". He means that old, crusty feather he salvaged from his dead pet. Skylar said it was his first big attachment as a kid, but it unfortunately got mauled by another animal when it was let out to roam one day. At least I think that's how the story goes.

Yikes, poor bird.

Chance hangs the single feather on the rear-view mirror in his car like a good luck charm. Even now it's creepy as hell, and I'm sure that thing isn't preventing crashes as much as it's provoking it.

"Yeah yeah, my bad." I wave my hand out the window in a "shooing" motion. "Well I'm about to leave because I might as well go mad if I stay any longer." I sigh while reversing out.

"What?" his face was confused. He's now waiting with his car on the curb so that he can take my spot.

"Oh yeah, there's some chocolate chip cookies in the house and they're actually all mine. So you can go and pick yourself out a big fat, juicy one or something and take it as my apology." I wink.

Chance gets out of the car once he parks and makes a face of disgust at me. Then he struts up the steps to the house like an idiot. Is he that happy about the cookies? Yeah, I'm sure. Our family does love sweets. I roll up my window and make my way to my pack member, Jacob's, house. He has a whole basement game room so I go there often due to boredom.

"Front door open" the security system announces as he opens the large brown doors.

"How you deal with that? I'd go crazy at the amount of times that thing would go off at my place." I take a step into his home, which is huge. His place is Uptown after all. These people are loaded.

"It's late afternoon. Why are you even here?" Jacob looks at me yawning while scratching his chest. His hair is all ruffled up, i must've woken him up from a nap.
