| The Book of the Past |

I looked at the elderly, her pale skeletal arm extending through the bell bars, holding out the empty leather book. I closed my eyes as I tried to steady my breathing, ignoring the beach ache I had. I was not in the mood for anything. All this new information was overwhelming me.
As I let out a shaky breath, I extended my arm and took the book from her hands, which was quite light for its size. As I brought it up towards me a sudden gush of wind swirled around me, holding my breath as I closed my eyes. All I could hear was Ava gasping as she must have also felt the sudden force too and the echo of a spine chilling laugh of the elderly.
As I opened my eyes, my mouth slowly opened, but no words came out as I was speechless from the once lit up occupied cell was unlighted. The elderly that once stood on the other side banished from eye sight. All that was left was Ava and I, and a blank book that supposedly had my history written in it.
"She's gone" Ava says, learning out a heavy breath as she was clearly dumbfounded from the past events
"I wonder where she's gone" I responded back
I looked at Ava as I frown. What were we supposed to do now? What if the book doesn't even work? Should we even trust the elderly?
I sighed as I looked down once more at the book I held with my two hands, slowly opening to the first page to find it blank. Then turned it to the next to also find it blank. I swiftly flipped through the pages of the book, pages still all blank.
I raised an eyebrow in confusion. Wasn't it supposed to appear in this book with just my touch? Was she lying to us all this time?
"I think we should just head back and help the Deamos. Who knows what's going on up there" says Ava as she turns to face the way we came from
"I guess we don't have any other choice"
We slowly started to navigate through the foul smelly cavernous sewer maze, trying to remember to where we came from. Soon enough the sound of water once again ringed into my ears as I knew that we were close to the exit. As I was about to say something to Ava the world seemed to suddenly slow down. One second I am walking silently next to my cousin and by the next I am laying down on the ground wincing in pain as I felt my left ankle sting.
"Oh my Irene! Are you okay?!" Ava bends down next to me, trying to help me get up from my sudden fall
"Yeah am fine, I must have tripped over something. It's not a big deal" Lies. I knew that I must have hurt my ankle really bad from the fall. It was sprained, knowing that that I needed to be treated quickly before it worsened.
I tried standing up with the little energy I had, only to slump down to the cold concrete floor once more.
"Big deal my ass. You shouldn't be lying about your well being, you know. Now here let me help you sit down against the wall" Ava grabs me from my arms as she helped me scoot towards the wall, leaning into the unwelcoming cold wall, sending chills down my spine. This place really needs a heater before anyone dies from hypotension down here.
