As the beast circled around me, slowly, taunting —his red eyes glowing and his fangs peeking out from beneath his lips— my legs couldn't help but tremble, making my whole body shake.

Right here. Right now. I knew I was going to die. It was inevitable. I couldn't run, or he'll catch me. I couldn't scream, because no one would hear me. And now, standing in the dark depths of the forest, completely vulnerable in the beast's presence, the alarms in the back of my mind got louder the more the creature got closer —screaming danger! Run!

But I guess, the wiser part of me knew better than to risk it, keeping my feet grounded and my body rigid. Because ultimately, it would satisfy the beast more if I fled. Making the hunt —and eventually, my death— a game, and me his pawn. His prey.

Raising my clenched fists, I took my fighting stance. Ready. Waiting. Because in my last moments, standing my ground with dignity, I will not be a weak target, but instead, an arrow; swift and sharp.

"Don't be afraid," the long, nasty scar near the creature's eye became clearer as he approached me. And I couldn't help but wonder how he got it... or who gave it to him —making the beast look even more dangerous and sinister.

"I won't kill you," he lied, his raspy growl sending chills down my spine.

"But if you ever run from me again... I will find you. I always do."
