We're Just Friends

Chapter 6

"C'mon! Give it to me!" Yeah Yeah said to Squints. Right now I was with them while we were getting a ball from Vincent's and the others were back at the sandlot. 

"No! I wanna hold it!" Squints said back.

"Ugh. You boys are so immature." I said rolling my eyes and taking the ball.

"Oh come on Madz. You know you love it." Yeah Yeah said slinging his arm over my shoulder, causing me to roll my eyes again.

Suddenly both Squints stopped and starred at something ahead. I looked and saw Wendy walking towards us. I smiled at her and she smiled back.

"Geez leweez." Squints muttered.

"What's the matter?" Yeah Yeah asked hitting Squints' shoulder. Then Squints took off his glasses and wiped them on his shirt then put them back on. Then, he pointed at Wendy and said, "Wendy Peffercorn."

Wendy looked at him then looked away awkwardly, then back at him. Squints started checking her out and I decided to step in now.

"Hey Squints. You know not every girl wants to be stared at right?" I asked.

"Yeah. Whatever Maddie." He said rolling his eyes but not really looking away from her.

"C'mon. Let's go." Yeah Yeah said, starting to pull Squints.

"No!" Squints said back, trying not to go with us.

"We gotta get to the sandlot!" I said annoyed. We continued having to pull him along, even when we were at the sandlot.

Once we were there Squints started being able to walk on his one but he still needed help so Yeah Yeah and I had to pull him.

"Where you been? We been waiting forever already!" Benny said.

"Ah Squints was perving a dish." Yeah Yeah said. Making me giggle. He looked at me and smiled then looked back at Benny. I reached out and put the ball in Benny's hand.

"Was not!" Squints defended.

"Yeah Yeah you were! Your tongue was hanging out of your mouth and you was swooning." Yeah Yeah said. Then I started acting like I was Wendy and started walking while shaking my butt a bit, then Yeah Yeah started acting like Squints. "Oh Wendy Peffercorn. My darling lover girl!" Yeah Yeah said putting his glove over his heart and was over exaggerating.

"I said SHUT UP!" Squints said upset. "I've got a lot of things on my mind."

Just then Ham walked up to Benny. Looking like he was about to complain.

"This pop isn't working, Benny. I'm baking like a toasted cheeser. ITS SO HOT HERE!" Ham complained throwing his glove on the ground.

"It's a hundred and fifty degrees out here. You can't play baseball." Squints added while waving his hand around and grabbing a bottle of Coke. "You have to call it for the day." He finished.

"You gotta listen to him Benny." Bertram agreed.

Benny thought for a second then made his decision on what he was gonna say.

"Vote then. Anybody who wants to be... a can't hack it, pantywaist... who wears their mamas bra, raise their hand." He said, trying to make it sound horrible so they wouldn't. They all did.

"I feel really targeted right now." I said sarcastically. Benny looked at me then realized what he said and turned red with embarrassment. Everyone else just said words of agreement to what Benny said.

"Fine. Fine. Fine! Be like that!" Benny looked really upset that he lost that which made me laugh a bit. "So what are we gonna do." He questioned.

Squints started having this laugh that sounded so weird and creepy. Then he looked around at everyone and was smiling. They were all smiling, having the same idea, except for Yeah Yeah.

"SCAM POOL HONEYS!" All except for Yeah Yeah yelled. They all looked proud of that idea. I just rolled my eyes at their childishness.

"Y'all go do that. I got to go get ready to meet up with a friend. Have fun being weird." I said waving them walking away.

I was out of the sandlot when I heard a pair of feet running towards me. I didn't feel like getting kidnapped today so I started getting ready to run but then I heard a very familiar voice calling my name.

"Madz! Maddie wait!" Yeah Yeah yelled. I stopped then turned back around.

"You don't want to go "scam pool honeys"?" I asked using finger quotes to quote Squints.

"Uglkh! No. I have one girl that I like so why would I go do that at the pool?" He said. That kinda hurt since I liked him.

"Oh. I didn't know that. She must be a lucky girl." I said trying not to sound hurt.

"You are." He said. That confused me a bit.

"What?" I asked

"You're that lucky girl. I like you Maddie." Yeah Yeah said grabbing my hands in his.

"I like you too." I replied. He smiled then walked me home to get ready then he said he'd meet me at the pool.
