We're Just Friends

Chapter 7

I got ready in my swim suit and walked over to the pool. None of the guys were there yet but I saw Wendy on the life guard tower.

"Hey Wendy!" I yelled up at her.

"Hey Madz! How you been girl?" She said back.

"Good. How about you?" I responded.

"I been great. Wanna come up and hang a bit?" She asked.

"I'm meeting some friends here but they aren't here right now so why not?" I answered. I climbed up the tower and sat on the board thing where you put your feet.

"Sooooooo..." she started. "What's new?" She asked.

"What do you mean?" I questioned.

"Something new happened today. What happened?" What the heck? How'd she know? She must have saw my confused face because right after she added onto that. "I can read you like an open book. Now tell me." She pleaded.

"You know. I don't think I will. Since you can read me like an open book you should know what happened." I replied.

She looked like she was about to get so upset at that response and it was hilarious. She slouched back, crossed her arms, and pouted like a 2 year old. I laughed then she sat back up ready to listen.

"So you know how I like Yeah Yeah right?" I started and she nodded. "Well you see. Earlier we were about to play ball when Ham complained about it being too hot, Benny made us vote on whether we wanted to play or not, we all voted on not, he asked what we should do, they all yelled scam pool honeys, I got up and started walking away because I was disgusted, Yeah Yeah ran after me, started saying he liked this girl, I said she must be lucky, he said I was, I got confused, he clarified and said he liked me, then walked me home, I got in a swimsuit, then walked here, they were supposed to be here but they're late, not surprised though, now we're here." I said all in one breath really fast. Wendy looked at me while squinting with her hand on her chin and nodding. I think she was thinking.

"I see. I see. Now can you say the part about it all one more time and this time slower and take a breath?" She asked causing me to laugh at the way she said it.

"Yeah Yeah told me he liked me and I told him I liked him." I replied. Well, replied with the long and the short of it.

"Girl no way!!!" Wendy said loud. I started laughing because her face was priceless. "Well I should have seen that coming because we've been talking for about ten minutes and they got her about the same time we started talking and he hasn't taken his eyes off you since he got here and saw you." She said. That almost made me fall off of the tower.

"What?!" I choked on my words after I got my balance back. She started laughing and I started laughing too because of how idiotic that was for me to do.

"It's all good. You look great. Now go get your lover boy." She said winking at me. I rolled my eyes at her then gave her a hug and got down.

I started walking over to the guys and sat on the ground and just put my lower legs in the pool. Then they all swam over to me.

"Hey guys!" I greeted.

"Hey Madz. I thought you had to meet up with a friend?" Ham said referring to my comment earlier.

"Oh yeah. I did. I met up with my friend just now." I answered. They all looked confused at that then shook it off. Then Squints looked like he remembered something.

"Wait, you know Wendy Peffercorn?!" He practically yelled.

"Yeah. I do. We met at the movies the night of the camp out and became friends. Why?" Suddenly I remembered his huge crush on her. "Ohh. You want me to introduce you two sometime?" I offered.

"No I have my own plan." He responded. That didn't sound good.

"No. No, no, no. Please no." I pleaded with him.

"What?" He asked confused.

"You're going to do something stupid and ruin my friendship with her." I answered.

"No I'm not." He said waving his hand at me.

"If you do, it's going to take a lot for me to forgive you." I warned. He looked nervous at that then shook it off. He can be so annoying sometimes.

We were just chilling there and talking when suddenly someone pushed me in and into Yeah Yeah. I came up gasping for air and started looking around for someone to fight then saw Wendy walking away then turning around and come back toward us with a fake look of guilt.

"Maddy I am so sorry. I did not mean to push you in. I'm sorry." She said and gave me a wink. Wow. Way to be discreet.

"It's all good." I replied. I mouthed a 'thank you' to her because I was too afraid to get in with Yeah Yeah and that push helped. She nodded then walked away.

The guys all swam away and it was just me and Yeah Yeah. I splashed him in the face then started swimming away as he chased me.

"Oh you're gonna get it Madz." He said in a fake angry tone.

"You'd have to catch me first slow poke." I said back at him.

He then cornered me so I started to go under water to swim under him to get away but he went under water too and we started at each other for a split second before he kissed me. We both came up gasping for air. I stared at him for a second while he fixed his hair.

'Wow' I thought to myself. 'This boy is amazing'.
