"I can lend you a bit of Mora, you know I'm good."
Your teeth grit, the letter in between your fingers crinkling. Moving to Liyue was a bad idea, overseeing your Auntie's flower store after she passed, and even taking on her debts. She was the only one left in your family that you were close to, you didn't think it would be this hard.
Yet, here you were, another unpaid debt that had to go into the pile of others. You were overthrown with these oncoming papers that what little mora you had disappeared almost entirely with every pay. It's not like the flower shop wasn't helping, but, it didn't really have you living the high life. You were lucky enough that her house had been just above the store in the harbour, a home she had actually paid off before she died.
Still, as the cool breeze from the sea swept through the streets and blew through your hair, you couldn't help but close your eyes and ease into it. You may not have had an ocean view, but you weren't far away from the docks. It just sucked that you weren't alone, either.
"I seriously don't get why you're so hesitant," he sighed, stretching his arms behind his head before relaxing on his back, watching the orange and pink tinted clouds as they drifted by. You remained sitting, feet padding in the cool water off the edge. He was not deterred by your lack of response, filling the gap himself, "You can't seriously be enjoying your life as it is? I've seen those nights of sorrow."
"Then stop stalking me, creep," you couldn't help but bite back, thoroughly annoyed by his confession. It wasn't your fault the curtains to the balcony broke, letting anyone high enough to see through to your living room.
Childe merely laughed, kicking his legs so he could come back up to a sitting position beside you, crossing his legs and leaning into your shoulder, "I just can't help it. I worry for you, ya know?"
It was always hard to decide whether or not to engage in conversation with this man. You didn't exactly know what he was capable of, but you did hear the rumours. Childe was Fatui, and the Fatui were not revered, as much as they were feared. He kept coming back to you, though, and his personality was so drawing. You hated it, you hated him. "No, you don't," you replied, placing your hand on his soft, orange hair, pushing him away, "I don't know what you want, but I do know it's something out of my power."
"Oh~?" He playfully purred, scooching back over to you so he was shoulder to shoulder, "And how exactly do you know that?"
"Well," you childishly fiddled with your fingers, now a little uncertain. Rumours were rumours, but, that didn't mean they were true. "You're Fatui," which was one thing, something everyone knew, yet the infamy surrounding Childe was different, darker. "And," you couldn't look at him, because what if you said something you weren't supposed to know? Highly unlikely, but still scary.
He wrapped his strong arm around you, pulling you into his chest. It was oddly comforting, maybe perhaps he has done well to secure a 'friendly' relationship with you. Whenever you've found yourself in trouble, he has a way to get you out of it, always. You did your best not to take it, scared of the curse that would follow if you shook that hand. His voice was low, contrasting to the light scenery of the sunset and laughter of children and bartering shop keepers, "I think... You're overthinking it. It's just you and I, little bird, no one else's word."
Again, he was doing something to drag you in. Each recognition of it felt more suffocated by the want to accept his call to friendship. So, much like last time and the time before, you pushed yourself away, stood up, and gave him a slight nod of your head, "Thank you again, Childe. But, I'll be okay. Enjoy the rest of your evening."
Those eyes followed you as you walked away, yet you knew better than to look back.
