"Alucard! I've finished it!" I squealed in the common room, holding up the green dress that was once a mere pile of fabric. I could call him from anywhere in the castle and he was sure to hear me, and promptly appear within a couple of seconds. It was startling at first, but I'd gotten used to it.
I also made sure never to speak my thoughts aloud unless I was sure I wanted him to hear them.
"I don't know much about dresses, but that looks lovely." He wore a proud smile and I beamed with excitement. I couldn't wait to start on the next one.
"I've got to try it on!" I exclaimed, running to my room. It had been just under two weeks since I started sewing the dress, and as it came along, so did my wounds.
Hastily, I slipped out of my tired old blue kirtle and into the new one. I laced the back carefully, tying a haphazard knot to finish it off. Patience was a virtue I didn't possess.
I moved over to the mirror and smiled at my reflection, twirling the thick fabric of the skirt around my fingers. I swayed side to side in content, even spinning in the forest green dress.
It was short-sleeved and hugged my body nicely, fitting closely at the waist and falling into a flowing skirt. I wore a white, long sleeve chemise underneath to finish it off. The neckline was square, and accentuated my breasts without making them look like half-squished chicken cutlets.
I quickly returned to the common room so I could show Alucard my new creation.
"Look! It fits perfectly!" I danced around in the sunlight falling through the windows, swaying the skirt of the dress in endearment. It truly was nothing special, but I felt like a princess.
"Yes, indeed." He smiled gently at me from a chair as I waltzed around the room, but I frowned.
"You don't like it?" I looked down at the simple dress, which really was just that; simple. I could have done a few things to make it more eye-catching, but I needed it finished as quickly as possible.
"What?" His smile fell right off of his face and his brows pulled together in confusion.
"I can tell you don't like it." A sigh left my lips and I sat down dejectedly on the chair closest to him. A small wooden table sat between us and the fire crackled a few feet before us.
"Mavis, please, I never said such a thing." I knew I was overreacting, but a bit of playful banter never hurt anyone.
"Well, you haven't said much of anything." Mustering up the saddest expression I could, I looked over at him, struggling to not break into laughter at the look on his face.
"Are you truly upset about this? About words I never said?" He chuckled incredulously and I shoved him playfully.
"I worked hard on it." I pouted, smoothing the fabric down with my fingers.
