???'s pov

I leapt aside from the Dramilion's claw before swiping my tail in its direction, knocking it off its feet just as it fired a blast up to the metal ceiling. A hole was made. It was small but maybe if I pulled at it then I could get free. I flap my wings and cling onto the hole, pulling at the metal with my teeth. I could hear humans yelling at me and trying to pull the metal on my leg but I persisted, breaking through the metal. I pull myself through the larger hole and take off into the sky, flying up to the clouds where I could stay hidden. I had to find some place to go. If I ever went back to that place then it would be too soon. I saw an island and flew down to get a drink. Once that's been taken care of I turn to the metal stuck on my foot. I pull on the chain in an attempt to get it off. One of the links snaps and the chain comes off but the cuff was still there. I couldn't do anything get it off, no matter how many times I bit and clawed at it. It only hurt around my leg more. I sat down on the beach, preparing to take flight when I hear a thud in the sand. I turn towards the source and walk through the sand that had gone flying everywhere. I sniffed the air while I tried to find what fell and smelled the strong scent of death. I raised my wings and flapped them to get rid of the sand and found the source. A dragon. I approach the dragon which has an arrow sticking from its chest. I recognised it. I fought against one of these dragon's before. The humans called them Night furies if I remember correctly. I sniffed the dragon. A young female. The poor thing. She must have been shot down while flying. I look around for anything she could have been carrying. Night furies were  too perceptive and quick to be hit in one shot. Something had to have distracted her long enough for it to hit. I find the object sticking out of the sand and approach. An egg. She was carrying an egg. No wonder she was hit so easily. She must have been chased from her nest and had to find safety for her egg. I lift my head at the sound of humans calling from the far side of the island. I lower my head and pick up the egg in my mouth. Once I'm sure that it's secure, I fly into the air, hiding in the clouds so that I would be safe. I fly far into the morning when the sun begins to show itself over the far edge of the sea. I look down where there's an island. Rocks surround the middle of the island which is filled with greenery and water. I fly down, landing in the middle and looking around. It was pretty well hidden from humans that's for sure. I look around for someplace to make a nest. A large cave. Big enough for me to fit. I approach the cave and gently place the egg down. I'll need to make a nest for it. I look around the island for supplies. I find all sorts of things and settle them down to make two nests. I didn't trust myself to sleep right next to the egg. Once the nest is made, I gently pick up the egg and place it in its new nest. The egg doesn't move in response like I was told they would. Maybe it was still to young for that.

I land on my island, the Night fury female behind me.
"So where's this egg you told me about?" she asks, looking around. I lead her to the cave where the egg is. She looks at it, sniffing around the egg only to stop, staring at it.
"This egg is cracked" she gestures to the back of it. I approach the egg and pull it forward in its nest. It really was cracked. But when did that happen. I thought back over the time that it had been in my care. I had been sure to treat it with the utmost care as to not hurt it. Unless, it had cracked the night I found it. The mother fell from a height so there's a possibility that the egg did too. The Night fury turns away and begins to walk out my cave.
"Wait, where are you going?" I call, following her.
"I'm not taking an egg that's cracked. If that egg hatches, the hatchling will not be able to do anything useful. They never do. And that's if the egg hatches because there's no gaurentee. Have you heard or seen it move?" I shake my head. She turns away and walks out into the rain.
"It's just an egg. You can't just leave it-"
"Do yourself a favour and toss it into the sea for something else to eat. There is no dragon who would be stupid enough to raise a cracked egg" it's the last thing she says before flying away into the sky, a crack of lightning illuminating her body before she disappears in the dark. I stay out in the rain for a little longer before approaching the egg again. I lay down next to it, reaching a talon towards the egg. It didn't move even when I placed my talon on top of it. I leaned my head against it gently but I couldn't hear anything. Maybe it wouldn't hatch after all. I lift my head and look down at the egg. That won't stop me at least trying.

I gulped down another fish from my pile. I lean down to take another when I hear a strange sound. I turn towards the egg where I could see a low glow coming from its nest. I approach the egg and turn it over to look at the crack. There was bits of lave dribbling out of the side. I lean towards it and tap the egg with one talon. I get a little tapper back. I lift my head. It was trying to hatch. It must not be able to explode because of the crack. I lean towards it, tapping the crack with a tiny bit of force. The crack caves where I tapped, leaving a little gap. A few seconds later a little foot pokes out from the egg, reaching around. I nudge its foots back inside the egg and use my talon to pick at more of the so it can get out. The egg rolls over, shaking slightly. Then it splits along the middle with a very sad looking explosion. In between the pieces was a tiny little night fury. I leaned forward and sniffed them. A girl. She chirped happily the sneezed, knocking herself onto her back. I look at her. Her wings were a lot bigger than they should be. And they weren't folded like they should. She gets to her feet only to trip over one wing and hit her jaw on the floor. I extend my wing and lift her head up with my talon. She blinks and then sniffs the air.
"Are you my mumma?" she asks, tilting her head. I look down at her. Her eyes look dull and don't seem to be focusing on anything. Can she not see me?
"Yes. Yes I am" I assure her. If I told her otherwise then it might scare her. She was still so small after all. I turn to y fish pile and pull out one, dropping it in front of her. She sniffs it.
"You must be hungry. Have this" I instruct her. She nibbles on the fish, letting out little chirps while she ate. I lay down in my nest and pick up another fish. She eats about half of the food and then picks her ears and stumbles over to me. She climbs over my wing and curls up next to my side, ear fin twitching on occasion. I looked down at her but didn't have the heart to move her. She looked so peaceful.
"Don't worry little Night. I'll keep you safe"
