"but i haven't gotten that far, yet." you whined.

"i know, but i'm telling you to look out for that chapter and pay extra close attention to it. i saw how you read that article in class the other day, even though the information is incredibly important to the rest of the course." he sighed.

"fine, whatever." you rolled your eyes. "why is that chapter so important anyway?"

he made a face as if the answer was obvious and you were the most stupid person he had ever had the displeasure of speaking to. "well, isn't it obvious? it's because all the information in that chapter really makes the motives of the murderer more clear. if you don't pay attention to that chapter, you'll never understand why the main character dies!"

"they die?!" you shout in surprise.

his eyes widened only a fraction, and you were lucky you were sitting close enough to have caught it. "whoops. i didn't mean to spoil it for you."

"'whoops'? that's all you have to say for yourself?!" you groaned. "well, i guess there's no point in finishing the book, now. got any other good ones?"

"what? you can't just drop the book like that!" he quickly protested.

"why not? if i know how it ends, why should i bother finishing it? the whole point of reading a book is to be surprised by the end, isn't it?" you argued.

he shook his head. "sometimes, yes, but other times, you know, you could just read a book for the pure enjoyment of it. you can't tell me you haven't re-read a few novels before, can you?"

looking away from him, you shook your head. "well, i guess not."

"so then why is this any different? i'm sure novels with film-adaptations have spoiled books for you as well and you still chose to read the book, am i correct?"

sighing again, you shook your head. "yeah, i've done that too."

"so you see? you may as well finish this novel as well. i assure you, even though you know how it ends, you'll still be thoroughly pleased with the ending." he smiled.

"fine. but if you're wrong, you have to let me give you a book of my own." you smiled.

he smiled, too. "i'd gladly take any one of your suggestions any day."
