Chapter 14: Exchange

"I have a gift for you!" I excitedly said while running towards Denisse's seat. I'm still wearing my bag.

She stood, emotionless.

She faced me.

"Thanks." She uttered upon getting a very small box from my hand. She put a fake smile on her face.

She walked away.

I knew it—she's mad.

"Go back to your seat." Our professor commanded as he walked inside the room.

"Sir, excuse me. I need to go to the restroom." Denisse said. I went back to my seat and get my pen inside my bag.

"Okay, make it fast. Our quiz will start in five minutes." The professor stated. Mabuti na lamang at pinahiram kami ni Rayden ng notes para sa quiz.

"Thank you, sir." Denisse seriously said. I think she would put my gift to trash.

Hindi nawawala ang tingin ko sa kaniya hanggang makaalis siya sa room.

I was embraced by sadness. She's my sister in blood, and I don't want her to leave me.

Ilang linggo rin na hindi kami nag-uusap ni Denisse. Napapansin ko na madalas na silang magkasama ni Kristine. Napagod na rin ako... I am tired of approaching her because the only thing that she would do was to ignore me.

"Hey!" Someone tried to reach me while I was walking towards the cafeteria.

"I told you, galit siya." I said trying to put some laugh in my words.

Tumingin lamang siya sa akin at hindi nagsalita. Patuloy pa rin kami sa paglalakad papunta sa cafeteria.

"Akala ko hindi mo na ako kakausapin after nung pagpunta natin sa Batangas." I jokingly said to Calvin.

He laughed. "Sorry, naging busy lang ako. You know?" Calvin shrugged. "Family's thing."

I merely nodded.

Nang makarating kami sa cafeteria ay napansin ko si Denisse at Kristine na magkasama. Denisse bought meats and not our usual vegetable lunch.

"Bakit puro gulay ang binili mo?" Tanong ni Calvin nang makarating ako sa lamesa. Mukhang gulat na gulat siya. "Are you vegetarian?"

He bought nothing.

I chuckled. "Aside from its healthy, it's cheaper."

He sighed. "Wait."

He used his phone. I think he's messaging someone.

"Mamaya ka kumain, ha?" He requested that made my eyes in wonder. Hindi siya mapakali na mukhang naiinip dahil sa kilos niya.

"Cal—"

"Shh!"

Ito na naman tayo sa ayaw niya akong pagsalitain.

He was moving his eyes na parang nababalisa.

Maya-maya pa ay dumating si Rayden at Anthony. They were carrying foods that were not vegetables.

Napasampal ako sa aking noo.

"Your payment, sir? We are also requesting for the service fee." Rayden sarcastically said while Anthony just smiled.

Pekeng ngiti lamang ang itinugon ni Calvin bago kuhanin ang dala nilang pagkain. "Eat this." He told me.

"Can we sit?" Anthony asked.

"Of course!" I suddenly replied.

I noticed Calvin blinked a couple of times. He might be frustrated because of his friends. Ang kukulit kasi!
