"alright students, please come around the table here" Professor Merrythought announced. Students began to crowd around the dueling table, excited to see what's about to happen.
"Today we will start dueling, I have paired you with your academic equal and you will duel until I say you are finished. Please know that there will no dark magic aloud and please try not to kill your opponent"
"Abraxas Malfoy and Walburga Black" Both Slytherins got up from their spot and hopped up on the table.
"Wands ready" the professor got off the table and backed away.
"Go"
"Stupefy" Walburga yelled
"Protego" The blast was powerful and nearly sent Malfoy off the table.
"Incarcerous" Abraxas sent the spell flying toward Walburga. She wasn't quick enough and it hit her right in the chest. Tight binds wrapped around the girl, and she struggled to get out. Malina was furious, she wasn't even a minute into the duel and she already lost. She'll have to punish her later for making Malina look weak.
"Tom Riddle and Malina Donovan" The professor called out. Malina wasn't surprised, for she knew both her and Tom were top of the class. They both got on top of the dueling table and went into position.
"Wands ready" Malina breathed deeply, she can't let Riddle beat her.
"Go"
Tom muttered a spell under his breath and shards of glass came flying her way. She easily blocked it with the flick of her wrist and sent a non-verbal spell toward him. Centipedes crawled around his neck and he said the counter curse.
Tom spoke a foreign spell to her and didn't know what kind of protection spell she needed. So instead she challenged the spell with a stronger spell she learned from her old mentor. The room got dark and lighting struck around Tom, making him jump back and loosened his hold on his spell. The room got light again and Tom whipped his wand toward Malina and a giant serpent made of fire came blasting her way. Even though it was meters away, she could feel the hot blast of it on her face.
Malina muttered another spell and a water serpent came crashing out of thin air. The two serpents fought as both Tom and Malina became tired but none of them would give up. Toms serpent was distinguished by the professor and Malina dropped her spell too.
"Marvelous, marvelous" The professor screeched, frantically clapping her hands. "That students, is how you partake in a real duel." Merrythought turned to the class. "30 points to Slytherin, for such outstanding dueling."
Malina turned her gaze from the professor and took a glance at Tom, he was already staring her down. Anger and hatred burned through his eyes. She smiled, knowing how angry he was for not beating her. She was glad the professor stopped, she knew if she continued on, she would of murdered Tom and the teacher wouldn't praise her for that.
Tom made his way off the table and so did she, but a hand stretched out to help her down. It was a Slytherin named Alden Greengrass. She took his hand as he helped her down.
"That was incredible. Finally someone can put Riddle in his place" He smiled down at her. Malina had to recline her neck, for the boy was so tall. "Alden Greengrass" He stuck out his hand, and Malina took it.
"Malina Donovan" a smile grew on her face as well, she had to admit the boy was quite attractive. They walked toward the back of the class and watched the rest of the students duel. Alden was called up to duel with a Hufflepuff, and won with his first spell.
"That was no fun" He said as he made his way over. "Can't believe Merrythought put me with that brainless badger" He shook his head.
"That's all for today, class dismissed" Students grabbed their bags and headed for the classroom door. Malina and Alden walked the corridor to their next class together. Malina mentally scolded herself, she knew she had better things then dealing with a horny teenage boy, but it made her ego swell being praised in that way.
They reached the Transfiguration classroom, the worst class on her schedule. Dumbledore was a headache, and they had grown apart since their first meeting in her home. Both Alden and her separated to their assigned seats. She sat next to the quiet Ravenclaw, and grabbed her books.
"Good Afternoon, students" Dumbledore called out from the front of the large classroom. "Today we will be learning about Muggle studies by using elements. Now, who can tell me the correct formula for the element glucose, or commonly known as sugar."
No one raised their hands, for no one studied muggle knowledge. Malina looked at the professor with pure hatred but instantly covered the look, for she did not want anyone seeing through her mask.
"Go ahead, Tom" Dumbledore said.
"Sir, I'm not sure I understand the reason for us learning this, it doesn't have a benefit to us since we do not live in the wizarding world. Wouldn't this be better taught in the muggle studies classroom?" Tom asked and Malina had to agree with the Slytherin boy. Muggles were savage creatures and most did not want to learn about the way they live. That was a choice they had at the beginning of the year, when they chose their classes.
"I have to agree with Tom, sir. I'm not sure how the elements are going to help me in my future career." She glanced at Tom, and he was looking at her with a blank expression. A chill went down her spine and she immediately regretted it, she knew Tom saw and a small smirk grew on his face.
"Tom and Malina, you seem to be making such a big fuss on the matter. Are you sure it's just because you do not know the answer. This topic can be very useful and will not be harmful for you to learn." Malina glared at the professor, he had just insulted her and she couldn't wait for the day she could kill him.
Across the classroom, Tom stared at the professor with the same expression and he too, couldn't wait for the day he got to murder Albus Dumbledore.
