FROM THE MOMENT AGRIPPA PATROCLUS VINCENT LEARNED THE STORY OF HIS MIDDLE NAME SAKE, HE WAS TERRIFIED.

The story of Achilles and Patroclus is legendary, written down in history for as long as anyone was capable of writing.

Of course, some would argue they were 'best friends', 'brothers-in-arms', and even in one appalling adaptation, 'cousins'.

(Rip would always shoot back at that one reminding many being related never stopped the gods, and rarely stopped the Greeks)

No matter what white, cisgender historians said, the story of Achilles and Patroclus was a tragedy and a beautiful love story all wrapped up in one.

And that was what terrified him.

You see, there is a long-held belief among the Romans that if you give your child a strong, legacy name, they will follow in their ancestors' footsteps.

One only had to just glance at Octavian, no matter how prickish or prude the boy was, and see he was well on his way to becoming the well-respected leader of his name sake.

Jason, the headstrong son of Jupiter, though no gifted sailor, was the people's hero, a champion among men, much like the hero before him.

Even Agrippa himself, named for the famed military general of the Roman army who helped Octavian rise to power, was a force to be reckoned with, being a centurion alongside his own Octavian.

Though, he often wondered if the first Agrippa had this many issues with the man he fought for and with.

And when he met Perseus, Medusa slayer and rescuer of Andromeda, simply an amnesiac boy with eyes the color of the Caribbean Sea, bloody and beaten, yet still standing, he knew their ancestors were right.

But do all fates have to come true? Will Agrippa fall hard for a man, hard enough he would be willing to die for them?

As he stared into those eyes, he knew for certain he had found someone he was willing to try for.

Maybe their story could be different, maybe they could save each other from the Fates laid ahead of them by the middle names they bear.

Or maybe they will fall, dying for a cause neither of them believed in, left for future heroes to ponder over if they truly were in love, or just good friends.

That thought alone was enough of a motivator to try, and damn was Agrippa ready to.

Their story may not have the happiest of endings, but if there was one thing Agrippa could take from the story of Achilles and Patroclus was that love was worth fighting for.

BONJOUR, MY DEAR READERS!

I know, I said this account was not for Percy Jackson stuff, but I really didn't want to run this on the same as Sofia's story.

This is 100% inspired by the fact that I finally am getting to the books by Madeline Miller. Sadly, I can't read 'Song of Achilles' just yet due to my library currently being out of stock, but 'Circe' is excellent.

Also, uh, first male lead OC from me since I was writing Warriors fanfiction when I was ten (fun fact: that was my first fandom, and I had no idea what 'fanfiction' was back then).

Reggie on my main account does not count as I have yet to really get into that story.

I will still do the things I have going on at NSLOHR on this story (maybe not the gifs at the beginning), so here's an incorrect quote for our lead boy, Agrippa, to set the tone:

Agrippa: I was born for politics. I have great hair and I love lying.

BEAUTIFUL. For those who don't know, I use ScatterPatter's incorrect quotes generator for these as a little bit of light-heartedness at the end of chapters that can be very hardcore in ways of emotions.

Also, as someone who loves giving characters middle names, Rick giving some characters some and others none is a pet peeve, so I come up with them myself.

Percy is either Odysseus or Achilles, though I also love the idea that he might just have a normal-ass middle name, such as James from his grandfather.

All others can be asked here if you want my opinion, also, I'm a huge name nerd, so can tell you a lot about a name.

Goodbye for now, demigods,

~N
