Judging Rubrics & Criteria

Hello everyone! We hope you've been getting along well with your partners!

It feels like we have been gone for a few days. We've been developing the best course of action for this competition. Never before have we used a judging rubrics for Wraphic in the previous seasons, but we think it would be super helpful this time around!

Of course, as every round may differ between categories, this judging rubric may not always apply to the round, however we plan to base most of written and graphical work on these rubrics! Please let us know if we have missed anything you would like to be graded on! Thanks ❤️

WRITING JUDGING RUBRIC AND SUCCESS CRITERIA

(1) Plot Development & Storytelling
• Pacing
• Intrigue
• Relevance

A good plot must be well paced to the particular criteria, and genre. It should not feel like a bombardment of information, but more so a development of plot, be relevant to the prompt. It must leave the reader intrigued throughout, and grasping for more. A clear insight to the plot and prompt provided. A well developed story, demonstrating careful thought and input. Reader may be able to emotionally connect with character voice.

(2) Technical Abilities:
• Language Usage
• Grammar - Punctuation, Syntax & Spelling
• Format

Technical abilities and grammar are important for all writers. The work should demonstrate an excellent vocabulary, syntax and use of language. Well refined, and a good knowledge on the structure and format of technical abilities. Allowances will be made if English is not a first language.

(3) Creativity & Balance:
• Feelings & Thought Process
• Uniqueness 
• Relevance

All work should be creatively expressive. It must be relevant to the prompt, idea or excerpt, as well as unique. Author must thoroughly be able to explain ones plot and be knowledgeable of its concept. Must provoke feelings, and work may feel refreshing to read, provides a new insight, and a unique approach to the prompt.

(4) Overall Enjoyment:
• Feeling

Any work should leave the reader with the desire to continue reading, or want more from the author. It should be enjoyable, comforting, thought provoking, and/or relevant. What is valued most? Is it the dialogue, the character development, use of description or plot alignments?

GRAPHICS JUDGING RUBRIC AND SUCCESS CRITERIA

(1) Visuals & Originality:
Relevance
• Creativity
• Inspiration

A graphic should be the ultimate seller anywhere in the writers business. It should express ultimate creativity, uniqueness and attractiveness. It should inspire, and provoke insight to the story. It should be relevant to ones prompt, excerpt or story.

(2) Concept:
• Relevance
• Intrigue

Is it relevant to the prompt? Is it relevant to the writing/storyline? The concept must be out of the box, intriguing, admiring, as well as a thorough representation of the prompt. It should provoke emotions through relevant colour schemes, and be able to provide its own story as a stand-alone in comparison to writing.

(3) Design & Technical Abilities:
• Design Execution
• Abilities and Visuals
• Graphic Clarity

The design should be well executed and thought out. It should be able to represent a designers abilities with use of blending, texture, composition, balance, and colour schemes. The graphic should be understandable, as well as visual and clear.

(4) Overall Enjoyment:
• Feeling

The design should make the viewer feel inspired, awestruck, and thought provoked. It should lead the viewer to instantly make connections with the prompt, inspiration or writing piece that the design may support and should provide its own storytelling.
