for the first twenty minutes of the car ride home, there was a tense silence between the two. ambrie was staring outside of the window, listening to the music on the radio and watching the raindrops fall as it had started drizzling minutes prior.
karl finally spoke up. "i just want you to know i ended things with harper last night," he turned to her for a brief moment. "we aren't together anymore."
ambrie turned to look at him. "really? how come? well i know the whole harper cheating thing but.. i don't know."
"you want me to be honest?" he asked, stopping at a red light and turning to face ambrie. she nodded, waiting for him to continue. "i really miss you. i miss everything we had. i don't know why all of a sudden it's hitting me. i guess it's the album. it just reminded me of all of our memories we had and i don't want to just let that go. i've been beating myself up everyday wondering why i ever kissed harper. maybe if i wouldn't have, we would still be together. i-"
he was cut off by ambrie hesitantly kissing him. he kept a shocked expression for a moment before kissing back. they were cut off by a horn honking, reminding them that hey! you're still on the road and the light is green! drive!
he began driving again, and the two both had smiles on their faces. after some more, this time comfortable, silence between them, ambrie spoke up.
"i miss you too. i don't wanna just be friends," she said, karl turning to her with a shocked-but-slightly-happy expression on his face. "but," his face dropped. "if we get together, i wanna take things slow. kind of how we did when we first started dating."
karl nodded in agreement. "we can take things slow, just please take me back." if he wasn't driving, he would probably be on his hands and knees begging. ambrie turned to him, a smile on her face.
"i'll take you back."
