I proudly handed in my paper at school the next day. I was safe from getting kicked off the team for a little bit longer.
'Maybe Sammy is right.' I thought. 'Maybe I should be working more at school. Eh, whatever.' I shrugged it off and took my seat to the side of the room with a few of my friends. We laughed and joked until the bell rang then quieted down enough for the rest of the class to learn.
"Wanna skip after class?" Crowley whispered beside me.
"No, not really. Everything else is just as boring as school." I just wanted to talk to Cas at lunch and fourth hour.
"Not video games at my house." He argued.
"Dude. No one wants to go to your house. Your mom is a freak."
"True." He shrugged.
Nearly three gruesome hours passed before the lunch bell rang. I rushed to the library to find Cas sitting with some people. He quietly ate a sandwich watching the group argue over some nerd topic.
"Hey, Cas." I said tapping his shoulder. He turned to look up at me.
"Oh, Dean. Hey. What's up?" He said covering his full mouth with his hand.
"Nothing. Just thought I'd come say hi. Tell you about the teachers reaction when I slapped down that paper on her desk." I looked up and found the now quiet group gawking at me. Cas noticed it too.
"Guys. Stop you're acting weird. Dean, these are my friends. It seems like they forgot how to speak all of a sudden."
"How odd since they were almost yelling a second ago." I joked.
"There's Chuck, Kevin, Anna and Charlie." He pointed to each one as he went along. They all let out little waves. "Guys, you've all heard of Dean."
"Not from you." The one Cas said was Anna piped up.
"Well, I mean. It's not like I talk much anyways." He said awkwardly. "Which reminds me... Dean, can I talk to you alone?" He stood up pointing to a secluded area.
"Sure. Bye guys. Nice to meet you all." I said to his group.
"Dean, about yesterday. The whole uh... Gay thing. Yeah... Thanks for acting cool about it at that moment. I'd understand if it freaks you out a little bit to much to be around. Just promise me one thing."
"Cas, look, it's okay. I'm cool with it. I don't care. It's your life. It's not just a decision you made either so I get it."
"Thanks, but still... Can you not tell anyone? Like, at all? Not even your diary." He emphasized.
"It's not my place to tell, so don't worry. Okay?"
"Thanks Dean. This means a lot to me. You really have no idea. I'll see you later okay."
It surprised me a little when I realized Cas was gay last night. I didn't see it coming that's for sure. Cas smiled up at me before walking away looking back to wave a little.
Art passed surprisingly well. Cas told me about his friends and I told him about the teacher's reaction to my paper. There was a little bit of tension between us, but it was bearable.
