NATASHAS POV
We cuddled and cried together while the storm raged on outside. I heard the floor boards creak outside and turned my face into Steves neck, not ready to say goodbye just yet.
The door burst open, but no one came in. Avery cried out and wriggled further into my hold. I looked up to the door. My arms automatically wrapping around Avery, protecting her. I noticed Steve do the same, wrapping his arms around me and Avery.
A singular bullet with NR carved into it rolled into the room. We watched it roll in circles until it came to a stop. A loud boom of thunder made Avery scream. My attention was immediately drawn to her. I held her closer and kissed her forehead. I tried my best to soothe her and turned my gaze back to the door and to the bullet slowly rocking back and forth. A flash of lightening briefly illuminated the room, revealing dark footprints snaking around behind us.
I looked over Steves shoulder and saw the wardrobe door slightly ajar. I nuzzled into Steves neck. Pretending I didn't see anything. I took a moment to compose myself and whispered to Steve.
"We're not alone. There's someone in our room. When I'm finished talking you're going to stand up and walk out. Go get Tony and come back. Get Jarvis to notify all others in the tower and see if you can get Thor or Loki down here....I love you" I kissed his cheek and shifted out of his lap. He stood and walked over to the door. Glancing back to me before walking out.
I moved back so I sat back against the headboard, still cradling a wailing Avery. I peppered kisses on her forehead, muttering soothing words in between them. Once she had settled a little I looked around the room again. Feeling a false sense of calm. I looked down to Avery.
"I love you baby girl" I whispered tears streaming down my face.
"Baby 'irl" she pointed to her chest "lo'e you" she pointed to me and I hugged her close.
"how lucky am I to have someone that makes saying goodbye so hard" I leant my forehead against hers and closed my eyes. There was nothing I wouldn't give for more time with this joyous girl in my lap.
The wardrobe door creaked open, followed by another loud boom as the storm battered trees outside. I stared at the wardrobe door, praying this wasn't happening. How could I fight and look after Avery at the same time? I couldn't....I prayed that my death would be quick.
A dark figure stepped out of the wardrobe. Heavy steps echoing around the room. Daggers gleaming in the dark. The sickly smell of death hung in the air. I held Averys head on my shoulder. Not wanting her to see anything. The figure stood at the end of the bed. They laughed. The unexpected sound bouncing off the walls. They pulled down their hood as another bolt of lightening flashed outside, illuminating their face. A face I had hoped to never see again, a face that still haunted me.
Tears blurred my vision. Something tells me this wasn't going to be quick and easy. Dreykov stood before me. He pulled a dagger from his belt, slowly, relishing in the sound it made.
"I told you I'd find you Romanova" I squeezed my eyes tight shut and cuddled Avery.
No No No No No NO!!!
"I love you to the moon and the stars little one"
I could hear hurried footsteps coming down the hall. I looked to the door. I saw a glimpse of Steve "I love you so much"
"BOO!" I punched him in the face as he stood beside me, utter reflex. He reeled backwards.
"Fuck Romanoff, why did you have to punch me" the door burst open and Steve, Sony and Thor tumbled in. I looked at the stumbling figure and Steve rushed over to me. I climbed off the bed and handed him Avery. I marched over to him and yanked his hood back as tony turned on the lights.
Loki held his nose and wore a mischievous smirk.
"I told you I'd get you back" I punched him again and he groaned. I held his shoulders and brought my knee up. He whimpered and when I let go he fell to his knees, his hands covering his crotch. I walked away from him and took Avery back from Steve. I walked towards the door, sending Loki one last crippling glare before storming out. I could hear tony Steve and Thor yelling at him as I carried Avery to the sitting room.
I sat her on my lap.
"I think me and you have spent too much time crying. And time is valuable. How about we make the most of the little time we have left?" She looked up at me and smiled. I gave her an Eskimo kiss and walked into the kitchen. I put Avery on the counter and started pulling out bowls and ingredients.
"Me and you, are going to bake something"
