When You Lay Awake

During the day I smile,
Hapless and care free,
Everyone feels like they know me.

I'm always aloof,
Never to grave,
I don't worry about making a path,
All the roads are pre paved.

But the second I step through my bedroom door,
The worlds shut out,
The glistening girl is no more.

I try to stop my pain,
The tears come like rain,
They soak my pillows,
My blankets,
My brain.

I tried to protect them,
It's be better off if they didn't know,
Now I look into dad's eyes,
And their is no longer a glow.

They differentiate my smiles,
The real from the fake,
Even though they can see,
What difference does it make?

I tried to hide it from them,
But I couldn't any longer,
I tried to be their model child,
Be their perfect daughter.

But I was never their perfection,
Not am I anyone else's,
I'm depressed without direction,
I love without exception.

So why does everyone hate me?
Why can't they see?
I'm so fragile,
Even a sideways glance can destroy me.
