Chapter 5

It's been a week since Scarlett became my friend. In a very short period of time we became close friends. She has a bubbly personality which can fill a person's life with excitement. Scarlett and Sam are twins but both of them are completely different. Sam is a guy who doesn't think twice before doing anything while Scarlett is a deep thinker. I spend some time with Sam when he came to our dorm. He loves to irritate me by calling me different names and to be honest I don't mind his nature. He is just friendly.

Scarlett and I shared same subjects so our classes are also same. She even joins me whenever I spend time with Xavier and Edward. I am glad that they didn't mind her as they don't like anyone joining our little group. She even came with us to their apartment twice. I observed Xavier and Scarlett's behaviour towards each other. I don't know what is going on between them.  Sometimes they get along easily but sometimes they argue like enemies. Well I think Xavier likes her that's why he teases her a lot. He is my best friend and I never saw him interested in any girl like this before Scarlett. Let's see what will happen in the future.

This past week I spend most of the time thinking about my growing feelings towards my best friend Edward and I think I have a crush on him. I haven't talk about it to anyone because I am not sure how they will react to it. I never thought that I will have a crush on Edward. He is my best friend since eight years and now he is my crush. My feelings are messed up.

"Avery. Are you listening to me"? Scarlett asked. Me and Scarlett are sitting in our room. Today is Saturday and Edward and Xavier went to a party. They asked us come with them but we denied their offer. Both if us didn't want to waste our weekend in that party.

"Yes"? I asked.

"I just want to thank you for everything. We just met a week a ago but I can say you are my best friend now. I never thought I will meet such an amazing friend like you". She smiled.

"I am also glad that you came into my life".
I said to her which is true.

"I want to share something with you. The reason I changed the college". She sat across me on the bed. I nod at her.

"I don't know you noticed or not but sometimes I reacts to small things very seriously. For example I don't like if people say anything bad about me and you know what is the worst part I dont know how to face those people. In my old college there was a boy named Andrew. I thought he is my friend but after spending time with him I realised he just want to use me. I was not interested in him so I said no but then he started spreading rumours in college that I left him because I want a man who has money. At first, I ignored them but then I couldn't take it anymore so I asked my father to change my college. Sam came with me so that he can support me around new people. Sometimes I feel guilty. Because of me he left his friends". She lowered her eyes.

" I think there is more". I mumbled to myself but Scarlett heard it. She continued her story.

"When I was three, my mom left us for another man because at that time  my dad was not that rich. After a year dad remarried so that we won't have to grow up without a mother. The woman he married was a single mother. She had a five years old daughter at that time. Her name is Amanda. Our step mother is a nice woman she loves us like our own. But Amanda is not like her.
She told Andrew everything about our family just because she was jealous of me. Then it started "like mother like, like daughter". I am not like her Avery". She sobbed.

"Scarlett don't cry because of that fools". I rubbed her shoulders consoling her.

"I know I am coward because I ran away from the situation". She covered her face with her hands.

"Scarlett look at me. You are not a coward. Everyone has their weak points and it is not easy to face them unless you are truly prepared for it. You did the right thing for now but when you go back show them who you are. The brave and sweet girl who is always there for her friends". I said. She hugged me " Thanks a lot Avery". She calm down after ten minutes.
