Moo Shu to Go Part 1

Jace held the necklace up in his hands as he examined it with squinted eyes 

"And he spoke to you?" Jace asks Clary as he looks over his shoulder at her and she nods 

"He said my name. He said, "Your mother for the Cup". Clary whispers 

"Who said that?" Alecs voice asks and all three of us spin around to look at him

"Valentine." the three of us state together 

"He's with my mother" Clary elaborates 

"And he can speak to you through that necklace? Here, in the Institute?" Alec asks confusion and worry fill his voice 

"It's like when I saw Dot." Clary says as if that explains everything. Jace sighs as he looks at the necklace  

"It's a Portal shard. That's why your mother made sure you had it." Jace explains and Clary just shakes her head 

"All I know is what I saw... My mother's alive. She's unconscious, but alive." she says 

"Did you see my mother?" I ask speaking up for the first time we had entered the room. She looks over at me her eyes sadden and she shakes her head softly I look down before Alec clears his throat 

"Where are they?" Alec asks and Clary sighs 

"I don't know." she whispers 

"But you said you saw them. Were there any identifying characteristics? Equipment, weapons, photographs?" he asks seemingly grilling her and she snaps 

"I don't remember. It was awful." she cries 

"Alec, lighten up." Jace snaps and Alec looks over at him 

"I'm trying to get something we can use out of this." he says through thinned lips before he looks over at Clary again "Clary, what did you see, exactly?" he asks and I see the tears start to form in her eyes 

"Valentine has my mother! That's what I saw." she cries letting tears slip 

"Emotions are nothing but a distraction. You're ruled by them. We're taught to control them." Alec hisses and a dark laugh escapes my lips. 

"And how is that working out for ya?" I ask stepping closer to Clary in a protective manner 

"It is my job to protect the Institute. If Valentine can see in, that's a door I have to shut. Now... let me take a look at that thing." he cries holding out his hand to Jace who sighs and hands it to him 

" Now, it's in the proper hands" Alec states before he starts walking away 

"Hey! Alec! Where are you going?" I cry running out of the room after him and I could hear Jace and Clary follow as well 

"To put this somewhere safe. Where no one could be tempted to use it." Alec says as I finally catch up to him but Jace rushes past me to tap Alec 

"We should use it. Alec, we should use it to get to Valentine." Jace says but Alec continues his long strides 

"If I were Valentine, I'd make sure you think that you could rescue Jocelyn. And then I'd lure Clary to me and leverage her life for the Cup and oh better yet his other daughter who knows where to cup is goes as well, now I've got two girls who I can use to get the cup" Alec says as he kneels down and seems to activate a rune on the floor and a hiding space opens up 

"I like Jace's idea. We saved Simon from the vampires that way." I add and Alec rolls his eyes 

"Yeah... vampires. Bored, decadent, self-involved vampires." he states as he puts the necklace in the hiding space. "Valentine is a real threat. He can't be handled by three-and-a-2-half Shadowhunters." Alec states moving to stare at me in the face
