AN:

Well, it's been quite some time since I was out, but here I am again. But I should probably warn you that my writing might be very, very rusty (probably even rustier than how I started), so if anything, please bear with me.

This will be a two-parter oneshot, something I had been working on since last week. So now, I'll leave you to it and let you indulge on this one.

——————————————————

For someone who should have already been dead at this point, he was a very lucky man. To reach this point in his life was never in his wildest dreams, but then, he can't also say he doesn't like this. Because he does - no, he loved and relished every single bit of it.

But life is always unpredictable, no doubt. It always has a plan of it own, and it does not care no matter how contented you are in your current state. And man has he no idea what is about to come knocking at his doorstep.

It was merely minutes after sunrise as he noted it. He was a morning person, and waking up during this time is not a problem for him. As he was working out with the makeshift equipment he made which was a makeshift dumbbell, he took a moment to look around the place he was calling home for more than a year now. And as crazy as it sounds, it was a castle somewhere in Romania. It was a ginormous, ornate castle withstanding the test of time. He wouldn't have even thought that from living on a small apartment, he would get to live on a castle like he was some royalty. Not even in his wildest dreams. Everywhere he looked inside he would always see the beauty and power it tries to flaunt, just like the castle's matriarch.

His hearing senses perked up at the sound of buzzing coming from outside of the room he was in, getting louder and louder by the second. He stood up and got ready, but it was too late. The moment he got on his feet, he was pinned down to the floor right away. He let put a pained groan, which then turned into a chuckle as he glanced at the figure laying on top of him and hugging him tight. It was a young lady with a pale skin complexion, red hair, and gold irises.

"Good morning, [Y/N]," she softly greeted. "Why do you always wake up so early? It's so cold waking up alone in bed."

All [Y/N] could do was chuckle again and smile at his girlfriend's whining. He placed a hand to the side of her face, feeling the softness of her skin before gently pulling her close for a soft kiss. Once she pulled away, he gave her a sheepish grin.

"Sorry, Daniela my love. Just a force of habit."

It had been more than a year already since he first entered Castle Dimitrescu.

[Y/N] was an awfully wounded soldier, near the brink of death during a mission on a nearby village. The mission was to look for his missing best friend Jill Valentine who went missing in action. Their information led them there in a small village in Romania, but everything went downhill once they heard the ring of a bell not too far from where they were. Their team stood their ground, but were unfortunately overpowered by the hordes of horrid creatures that rushed upon them. Although he had way too many injuries sustained, it was a mystery to [Y/N] that he was able to survive that attack as most of his team were torn apart, limb from limb. The horror, he couldn't take it anymore.

He heard the distant and faint call of his co-team leader, but his wounds wore him out real quick that moving even just a limb was too tiring and painful for him. His comms was also badly damaged, so he had no way to contact anyone from his team nor the base. So he closed his eyes, waiting for the bright light to appear before his eyes and pick him up. He snapped them open again, however, when he heard low animalistic growls near him. He was about to reach for his handgun when a large metal hammer slammed beside him. He glanced up and met his reflection off of the man's sunglasses.
