contemplative , moral , bold , expressive , and even a charming flirt . he is rather kind , carefree , calm person , although he has shown signs of possessing a personality that suffers from mood swings depending on how he views the situation , but for the most part he is the sort of "big brother" to the grade alongside tenya iida who constantly strives to help everyone hone their quirk and is continually supportive . he can come off as overly objective and ruthless while possessing even the kindest , most calm of demeanors but this seems to help keep others in a more grounded perspective whenever he is encouraging them or aiding them in training . he has little respect towards both villains and the governmental restrictions on quirks . he has even similar ideological approaches when compared to destro , believing in the free usage of quirks and liberation of their potential . although his approach is more based on unrestrained heroism . he has little care for certifications and paperwork titles , instead choosing to judge based on pure practical skill . he likely suffers from some form of post traumatic stress disorder , as due to his father's hero work , he was often not far when villains struck , and witnessed much death which he attributes to heroes having their powers restricted by governmental law . this trauma is further amplified by the death of his father , a most suspicious passing which reinforced his distrust towards governmental control of quirk-possessing people , along with the added pain of being the one to find his father's body only to be silenced by the german government . anger and pain continues to be a driving motivator for him and when he first came to u.a. he was in a very dark place psychologically and emotionally . he wishes to simply see quirks thrive under the truest liberation of the identity they offer , and was even more pained to see that japan , a supposed golden place of heroism , still lacked the true freedom he sought for with quirks . however , he sort of 'fell in love' with one area of japan that he witnessed , and that was the fellow heroes in training around him . he managed to find much of his dreams rewarded in u.a. superb quirk training . it is here in season one where he gradually feels like he's found a place where he is somewhat removed from the restrictions on what he was born as . this is partly why he takes so much interest in helping his classmates grow , so that they never feel tied down by an inability in their quirk . and although he holds that quirks are an evolutionary advantage and step forward , thus to be embraced , he holds to the belief that the world can still be bettered . he is incredibly keen and intelligent , but also incredibly brutal and ruthless . he strategizes how to take down an opponent efficiently , without heavy regard for their safety or wellbeing . he is prone to more and more mental instability every time he overuses his quirk and briefly loses oxygen flow to the brain . due to suffering several instances where he loses oxygen to the brain , although he remains a kind and supportive person , his violent tendencies have only grown clearer . he has maimed , permanently scarred , severely burned , and nearly killed several villains that he has fought and inflicted extremely torturous amounts of pain with the lightning he produces .
