“Suspension?” I felt my eye twitch as I leaned against the wall. “You’ve got to be kidding me.”
“Mei-san...” Tohru spoke weakly. “He did destroy a classroom-”
“Oh I understand.” I spoke curtly, turning to glare at Haru. “I’m not mad at Sensei, I’m upset with that idiot over there.”
Haru shrugged, picking a flower from between the cracks in the sidewalk. “Fine by me.” He muttered, reaching out to tuck the flower behind my ear. “Stupid bitch thinks it’s gonna bother me.”
I let out a low sigh and shook my head, turning to Yuki. “Thank you.” I whispered, smiling.
"I take it you've got it all sorted out then?" He asked, a cross between a questioning glance and a smug smirk on his face.
"Not entirely, no." I shook my head. "I don't think I'm prepared to take it past what it has been- or whatever it is right now." I huffed. "It's awkward but we're working through it."
"I'm glad." He agreed. "Let me know if you ever need help with something, I'm just a phone call away."
"Of course."
"Mei." Haru spoke up, blowing hot air into my ear. "Walk me home."
"What are you, a child?" Kyo scoffed.
"It's fine. I've got some choice words to say to him anyway. Do you think it's alright if I skip out on a meeting tonight Yuki?"
"It's no problem at all. Kimi and I will take care of your duties."
I shivered a little at the thought of Kimi doing vice president tasks. "Alright. You'll keep her out of trouble?"
"Yes Ma'am." Yuki nodded. "Don't fret too much."
"Alright. I'll see you all later, Tohru, have a good night!"
"Yes!! You too Mei-san!" She waved, a cheery look on her face. "Bye Hatsuharu-San!"
"Bye."
I rolled my eyes at his nonchalant behavior and followed behind him towards the exit. "I think you're capable of walking home yourself you know." I said, striding up beside him.
He glanced at me for a moment, then shrugged and looked away. "Yes, but I wanted you to come with me."
I smiled, heat rushing to my cheeks. "Y-yeah I know-"
"So quit complaining, sweetheart."
"That was cold-" I muttered, frowning slightly.
He stayed silent, then wrapped his arm around my shoulders with a sigh. "Sorry.""S'okay." I sighed. "I'm just- trying to get used to this. Whatever this-" I motioned to his arm. "Is."
"We can't be close in the ways I want." He sighed, running a hand through his hair. "This is the closest I can give to affectionate."
"The ways you wa- that sounds like something an offender would say." I deadpanned.
"Shut up."
"Make me. Asshole. You're the one who just admitted to wanting to fuck-"
"You know thats not what I meant-"
"Do I?"
"God you're intolerable."
"You went on a rampage in the school today. Who's the intolerable one?" I crossed my arms, coming to a stop outside the gate of the Sohma Estate. "Now come on, what was that about?"
"Nothing." He huffed, shoving his hands in his pockets.
"Don't go all dark on me now." I huffed, tapping my foot. "I just want to understand you."
He stopped walking, moving so he stood in front of me. "I was angry at myself for making a mess of our relationship."
I swallowed, bringing my arms behind my back. "Well- we solved that problem, didn't we?"
"Did we?" He mumbled, letting his head drop a little. "Here we are arguing- not how I thought this walk would pan out."
I opened my mouth to speak, then stopped. "How did you want it to go?" I finally said, looking anywhere but his eyes. Definitely the most awkward exchange we'd ever had.
"I don't know. I thought things might be different now that we-"
"That we what? Kissed? Proclaimed how much we love each other?" I smiled. "I don't want things to be different between us. I was happy with how things were. The only difference now-" I paused, waiting for him to look at me. "Is that I don't have to hold back on kissing you."
"Yeah." He huffed. "Thats a relief for me as well."
"So don't worry about whatever happens in the future. Everything is gonna be fine, and when we come across a bump in the road we'll cross it together. You just can't wig out on me and go all dark."
"Thanks." He looked up, a small half smile on his face.
"No problem." I reached up, brushing some hair out of his face.
"Come back to my place." He said suddenly, grabbing my hand.
"I though you didn't mean it that way-"
"Idiot." He huffed. "I just want you to come back to my place and hang out. No ill-Intentions."
"No Ill-intentions?" I laughed. "While that sounds amazing, and I really wish I could-" I sighed, moving to hold his hand. "I need to get home. Mom has a dinner meeting tonight, and I need to prepare some things before hand."
"You really need to tell that woman no sometimes. I'll fight her for you." He grunted, his eyes blazing.
"Please don't." I laughed, grabbing his arm. "I'll see you tomorrow, we should do something with the others. I'm pretty sure Yuki has it out for you just a little bit."
"Not Yuki-" He gasped quietly, like a small child. "What for?"
"Being an idiot in school, what else?" I rolled my eyes.
"Hmph." He shrugged, grabbing my face in his hands. "Have a good night, be safe. I love you." He leaned down and kissed me gently on the forehead, then pulled back.
"Oh come on. You don't have to hold back." I laughed, pulling him toward me. "I love you too. Don't get into too much trouble tonight." I kissed him, smiling when he held my face in one hand and my hip in the other.
I was screwed, for sure. As in love with this boy as I was, I wasn't sure how any of it could turn out to be good in the end. But right now, I didn't care.
