"Aw it's so cute." I had dropped my usual sarcastic manners when I saw one of the baby pigs in the bloodhouse. It laid there in its pen rolling around the sawdust reaching for the small bit of sun that permeated the building. Winston looked away and headed for one of the back of the walls. He gave a slight attempt at humor calling over his shoulder.

"Yeah and I bet he's gonna taste even better than he looks." A pang of worry hit my heart. I awkwardly laughed off his joke. His footsteps had let me known he had returned.

"You're joking right?" I glanced up at him to see Winston a large and incredibly sharp butchers knife. His lips turned up slightly, forming a smile that made my stomach turn.

"Where do you think all that bacon you were eating comes from." Uck. Oh my God I ate bacon. Holy shit I ate a pig and now Winstons going to fucking kill this one. My face must have shown my panic. Winston rolled his eyes. "I'm not gonna get rid of the young one." He cleared his throat and pointed his knife towards a much larger and mature hog. "Today I'm doing that fat sucker." He opened the pens small gate. "Come on help me bring him over to the butcher spot."

"What?! No I'm not gonna help you murder an animal!" Winston huffed and moved me out of the way by my shoulders. He mumbled.

"I told the others that bloodhouse wouldn't be a good idea." I scoffed.

"What? Just because I don't want to kill an innocent creature!?" Winston grabbed the pig by its homemade collar and led it to the back of the blood-house. The stains where they stood looked like they had been scrubbed to no avail. I pleaded with him. "Winston please stop." He spun around to look at me.

"Look if you can't handle this you can go clean up klunk in the back but one way or another I'm gonna kill this thing okay." He turned back to his victim fiddling around with his knife. I wanted to do something I wanted to stop him but I couldn't. I couldn't move, I didn't know what to do. I was frozen.

My heart fell like it had stopped. My mouth dropped as Winston leaned over to the pig. Right as the blade dipped into it's neck I covered my eyes and turned my head wincing as I heard the animals shrieks. Hot salty tears crept out of my eyes. I stood there trembling until there was quiet.

"I'm done." He said shortly. I opened my eyes to see Winston covering up the body with a small tarp. His hands drenched in blood. My whole body was shaking and my heart was palpatating.

The world started to blur out and I staggered out of the room. I ran. I don't know where I was running but my feet were pounding against the ground. I couldn't even see where I was going. Maybe that was my first mistake. I stumbled over some sort of object. My knees scraped themselves from the fall.

"Woah! Are you okay?" I picked myself up and kept my up my sprint. I didn't stop until I reached the woods. Literally. I ran into a tree. Sharp pain shot at my nose.

My head pounded mercilessly. I was on the ground sprawled out. I groaned as the world spun around. I blurred in and out of consciousness. The last thing I remember was a tall figure standing over me.

It picked me up princess like and started carrying me somewhere. I laughed without reason, my mind was murky from my tree rendezvous. The last words I mumbled out were.

"Are you an angel?"

Warmth. Wet warmth dampened my forehead. I didn't want to open my eyes yet. Perhaps if I kept them closed I could stay like this forever. Free.

Nope never mind. My eyes betrayed me, curious by the murmurs washing around me like an ocean. I groaned and took a few blinks to become fully adjusted my surroundings. I was in the homestead. More specifically the same room Gally was in when he was patching himself up.

Chuck sat by my bedside holding my hand in his. Newt stood in a corner exchanging words with a muscular lean boy and another boy with fluffy hair. Most surprising was Gally. He was secluded in one of the corners arms folded over his chest. I sat up causing a washcloth to peel itself off of my head.

"They're awake! Guys they're awake!" Chuck crowed. He squeezed my hand excitedly.

"Ugh, I feel like shit." I croaked. The two other boys and Newt rushed over to me. Gally stayed in his corner. From the look I stole of him he had dropped his hands to his side and his face had softened. Newt looked down at me, concern laced his voice.

"You're awake! What happened?!" Confusion swirled in my head.

"What?" I questioned. Newt blathered on.

"All we saw is you running like your bloody life depended on it! You ran into a tree, bonked your head, fell over, and then Gally picked you up. He brought you back here to the medjacks." My head still pounded. I opened my mouth to speak, my voice felt dry.

"Winston. Bloodhouse. There was Blood everywhere. I tried to stop him." My voice dropped in volume. "But I couldn't." I coughed bringing myself to a sitting position. "I guess I just don't like blood a lot." Newts eyebrows were knitted in worry like a concerned mother.

"Yeah we'll that's the last time your stepping foot in the blood-house. I'm glad you're okay but I got things to do alright." He patted my head. "I'll see you shanks later." He was almost out the door before he paused. "Oh and greenie? Do us all a favor and stay away from Winston." I saluted him goodbye.

"You got it boss man." The medjacks trailed out of the room to give me some privacy. I rustled the covers around so that I was hanging my legs on the side of the bed. Chucks face was still earnest from my wake up.

"I thought you died! Good thing you didn't though. I'd be a real shuck tour guide if my greenie was dead." Gally spoke bluntly from the corner he isolated himself in.

"They weren't dead Chuck. Just stupid." I shot him a glare and replied sickeningly sweet with obvious sarcasm.

"Gee thanks Gally. Wow you are just too sweet!" He furrowed his brows and pressed himself against the back of the wall.

"Anytime. Alright I gotta get going, builders will start revolting soon." He stalked out closing the door behind him. I can't believe him he is just so. He is something thats for sure.

"Well isn't he just a ball of sunshine." Chuck gave a sigh.

"Yeah well that's Gally for you." The young boy paused. "Like I said before I'm still glad you didn't die." Chuck shuddered. "The baggers would've taken your sorry self to the deadheads." I laughed.

"Sorry to disappoint you Chuck but you won't be able to get rid of me that easily." I ruffled his hair. "So tell me, how long was I out for?" He looked up at me with his soft doe eyes.

"No more than an hour really." He paused troubled by something. "When they found you, you had a blood all over yourself. I guess you got a bloody nose or some kind of thing like that." I grabbed his shoulder.

"Look I'm not going anywhere okay. I'm fine. I swear!" I held up my pinkie to him. "I promise." He looked at me warily before accepting my pinkie promise. I huffed. "Well I'm starved how about we get some lunch?" His lips turned up into a smile.

"Okay. Sounds good."
