chapter nine
lisa

"Everyone! This is Lisa Parker." announced Alicia, mointioning to Lisa. "And Lisa this is-" she made to introduce them all but was cutted off by a very excited Lisa.

"I know all of them. This is Sirius Black." she started pointing at each of them, "This is Harry Potter. Ron Weasley. Fred and George Weasley. Hermione Granger. Ginny Weasley." she rambled on in one breath.

"Take a breath Lisa." chuckled Alicia "You really are very excited."

"Sorry." she smiled sheepishly as they moved inside with the door closing behind them.

The children started to talk amongst themselves as Alicia turned towards the tapestry, "So, tell me about this." she asked Sirius.

The tapestry looked immensely old; it was faded and looked as though doxys had gnawed it in places. However, it was still sewed brightly enough in the golden thread that revealed a large family tree from the Middle Ages. At the top of the tapestry, large inscriptions read:

The Noble and Most Ancient House of Black 'Toujours pur'

"You're not on here." said Harry, who had also joined their conversation.

"I used to be there," said Sirius, pointing at a small, round, charred hole in the tapestry, rather like a cigarette burn. "My sweet old mother blasted me off after I ran away from home- Kreacher's quite fond of muttering the story under his breath."

"You ran away from home?" asked Alicia.

"When I was about sixteen," said Sirius. "I'd had enough."

"Where did you go?" asked Harry, staring at him.

"Your dad's place," said Sirius. "Your grandparents were really good about it; they sort of adopted me as a second son. Yeah, I camped out at your dad's in the school holidays, and then when I was seventeen I got a place of my own, my Uncle Alphard had left me a decent bit of gold-he's been wiped off here too, that's probably why-anyway, after that I looked after myself. I was always welcome at Mr. and Mrs. Potters for Sunday lunch, though."

"But . . . why did you. . . ?" asked Harry tentatively.

"Leave?" Sirius smiled bitterly. "Because I hated the whole lot of them: my parents, with their pure-blood mania, convinced that to be a Black made you practically royal . . . my idiot brother, soft enough to believe them . . . that's him."

At the very bottom of the tree, Sirius jabbed his finger under the name of 'Regulus Black.' A date of birth was followed by the date of death (about 15 years previously).
