Epilogue 1

-Migs and Asta-

The immediate aftermath of Din's fight with Bo-Katan had been pretty anticlimactic in Migs's opinion. With her dead, the three men that came along from Mandalore, all of whom seemed to have expected the outcome if Migs was any judge, swiftly pledged themselves and their clans to Din and that was the end of it. Well, Din had given Bo-Katan a traditional funeral that her three friends had attended but then there was no more mention of Darksabers or unrest.

It was a little baffling how a guy like Din had become such a universally loved ruler. A bounty hunter with more annoyed sighs than words and less than spectacular people skills was actually doing a great job leading his people. Personally, Migs thought Mera deserved a lot of credit for her influence. He had changed since he'd married her, even Migs could see that.

Din wasn't the only one changing his life for a woman. Even though it had been violent and the little girl had probably been traumatized and his knee had been fucked, Migs was thankful he'd ran into Xi'an in that bar. He couldn't imagine going back to his life, ferrying people around for money. It was desperately lonely and so boring.

Migs never wanted to go back to that life again. Now, he knew he wouldn't have to. He didn't think he'd ever swear any vows or wear beskar head to toe, but he had found what he'd been looking for here. A purpose.

He had people—friends that wanted him around for more than just his criminal skills—a place to stay and a job that didn't require running from the law. And most importantly, he had Asta.

It had been a month since she'd woken up. For the first time in his life Migs felt like his past no longer ruled him, that he could have a happy future. The found family and home were nice but it was Asta that truly made him believe in that future. It was Asta that made him truly happy for the first time in years.

Asta had been surprised to learn that Migs hadn't ever learned to swim and so had taken it upon herself to teach him. They'd spent every afternoon for a week at a secluded beach where Asta had evidently learned herself as a girl. He wasn't ever going to be as at home in the water as she was, but he wouldn't drown.

Mostly he appreciated what passed for her swim costume and laying on the beach with her afterwards, kissing her salty skin.

She had gone with him to Sorgan to retrieve his ship. It wasn't as big as the Cin Vhetin but it wasn't cramped and he had a comfortable berth. They took an extra long hyperspace route back to Concord Dawn, spending the four day flight relying on autopilot as they took full advantage of being completely alone together.

"So... what do you think you'll want to do now? When we get back I mean."

Migs did his best to sound casual as he leaned to the side and watched Asta watch the stars streak by the small viewport over the berth. He sat behind her, her smooth back pressed against his bare chest, his legs wrapped around hers.

After taking a moment to consider her answer, she dropped her cheek against her knee and smiled up at him. He loved it when she did that.

"I'm not sure. What did you think about what Din announced before we left?"

Feeling a blush begin to creep up his neck, Migs huffed a laugh and scratched the top of his head. "Well... which part? The volunteering to scout the outer rim with the New Republic or... the other part?"

Her laugh was hesitant and she looked back to the viewport. Din had reminded them of their agreement with the Senate and that they needed volunteers to begin aiding the New Republic as they swept the outer rim for any remaining remnants and general policing.
