Katsuki's thumb brushes over her pulse as they stare up at the night sky, her hair tickling his bicep as the weight of her head stays steady on his shoulder.

His eyelids are heavy, and his breathing is evening out, and that's probably why he feels free enough to whisper,

"I could love you,"

Her heart stalls.

I could love you,

He says, into the hot summer air.

Under the bright starry sky.

Next to the bubbly, Round Faced girl.

I could love you.

The silence is deafening until it's not.

"...Hm?"

Her hum of curiosity ripples throughout his body, and he lets his eyes drift closed under the feeling of their entertained fingers.

She was always so warm to him.

In first year when she would greet him every morning with that same smile.

In training when they would work together and he would get to touch her waist and hands in close combat scenarios.

So warm...

"You said that Deku told you he couldn't. That it would be too hard." His breathing is calm and that one wrinkle between his eyebrows is smoothed out, and as he feels her thumb run over the meat of his palm he smiles.

"I could."

Ochako groans next to him, burying her face in his shoulder as she recoils in embarrassment.

"Katsuki, that was last year-"

"Yeah well I'm talking right now." His voice has a stern tone to it, and his grip on her hand is tighter as he rolls to his side lazily to look at her.

His expression is a rainbow.

His eyes are red, but not a scary red like fire.

His red is honest, and alluring. Twinkling at her like a cheeky secret.

His cheeks are pink. Flushed with emotion and sleepiness and candidness.

His smile is white, teeth barely visible under his lazy grin as he cradles her hand to his chest.

A part of her regrets letting him talk her into looking at the stars with him tonight.

A different part of forever grateful.

"I can do it, Ochako." He whispers, breath hot against her forehead as his other hand rests on her hip. "You just gotta let me try."

She wants to. God, she wants to.

They've gotten so close this past year, and he's been completely open about his feelings for her the entire time. She'd have to be stupid to believe she didn't reciprocate, given the fact that they were literally cuddling under the stars.

But that wasn't the problem.

Katsuki, he-

He has such big dreams. So many goals.

Wouldn't she slow him down?

Hold him back?

Her eyes begin to water and her lip begins to tremble as he gazes at her so lovingly.

He doesn't know what he's asking for. Stupid boy...

Shaking her head, Ochako drives her forehead into his chest and buries her ugly crying face into his shirt.

She was supposedly past self pity this year. She had grown so much.

But this man- this man that has been there for her time and time again, the one who curses and yells and sings her to sleep-

He deserves the world.

Can he get it with her by his side?

"You don't want me-" she begins, voice shaky and sad as his big, strong arms circle her waist and pull her to him.

"I do." He whispers, rolling on his back and settling her legs between his own.

She's laying on his chest now, and though she wants to yell at him, explain her side of things, tell him why, all she can do is wrap her arms around his neck and whimper into the summer air.

"You don't."

Despite the crying girl in his arms- despite the way seeing her sad makes him sad, Katsuki still smiles.

She's so cute. So fucking cute.

His thumb rubs at the skin just under the hem of her shirt soothingly, his chest rising and falling peacefully as she cries into his neck.

"Why do you keep doing this, huh?" He chuckles, his gruff voice a gravely contrast to her silky sweet squeaks and sniffles.

"Acting so damn difficult... makin' me squirm."

He plants a sloppy kiss to her forehead and waits for her to lift her chin and look up at him with those around eyes.

She does, though her eyes are a bit more watery than he expected.

It's fine. He'll fix that soon enough.

For now, Katsuki presses his forehead to Ochako's and lets their breath dance as their noses meet.

"I can do it Ochako. Let me love you."

He already has been for the better half of this year.

After that night when she fell asleep on his bed, pencil still tucked in her hair as she snored on his cushioned mattress, they'd never been the same.

She'd woken up to his arms around her waist and his head resting on her chest, and she hadn't hesitated to run her fingers through his golden hair.

One clumsy night of forgetfulness and convenience had turned into linking hands in between classes. It had turned into hugs from behind and sleepovers every week.

It was never a relationship, really.

It was more like a partnership.

An understanding of each other. That they were melded together now. Inseparable.

He couldn't keep his greedy hands off of her and she couldn't ever bring herself to deny him.

And now, after months of living on the line of friends and something more, Katsuki knew that he could do it.

He could love her.

And she knew it too.

Katsuki and Ochako are in love. They have been for the entirety of their last year at UA.

One night Ochako falls asleep in Katsuki's room, and they find themselves in each other's arms over and over again. It's a crime to call themselves friends, and Katsuki decided that one night, while they lay in silence and watch the stars, that he will say what they're both thinking.

He can love her.

She just needs to let him.

Anyways go listen to New Years Day by Taylor Swift- she made me do it.
