This caused Robbie to shoot up from her spot, almost tipping the chair over as Buck walked out. She rushed to get dressed, throwing on a pair of random black shorts that were on the ground and an old band shirt she had stolen from Dally. Robbie hurried up and changed into the clothes and put her socks and shoes on and dashed out of the house, her mind running a million miles a minute as she ran to the house she felt the most comfortable in. Her worn-out converse carried her and she eventually made it to the street she first ran to what seemed like forever ago. The green-eyed girl ran to the gate, only to stop when she saw who was on the porch as she caught her breath.
"P-Pony?"

Robbie's voice rang through Ponyboy's ears as he looked at her as she stood by the metal gate. Her pale hands swung the gate open and marched up to the boy with an angered expression. Pony's head shot to the side as Robbie's hand made contact with his cheek. "Why the hell would you leave me here?" The brown-haired girl yelled, her face was red as she spoke. Pony looked at her, but no words came out of his mouth.
Robbie went to open her mouth, but she was cut off by Ponyboy Curtis wrapping his arms around the girl's waist and squeezed her tightly. She processed what was happening and wrapped her arms around his neck. "Don't you ever, ever do that again." She pulled away to look at him, her arms still around his neck. "I will kill you before anyone else gets to you, you understand?"
A laugh left Ponyboy's mouth as he heard Darry call him inside, Robbie following after him with a smile on her face. She was just glad that her boys were home. "If you smoke more than a pack today," Darry warned as he put on his overshirt and threw a pack of cigarettes on the end table by his chair. "I'm gonna skin you." Robbie chuckled as she sat down in his chair, earning a slight look from the older man but he just simply smiled at her. "If you overwork yourself, me and Soda here are gonna skin you," Pony joked back. Soda, Steve, and Darry all walked out of the house, leaving Pony and Robbie alone with the man-child named Two-Bit, who was sitting on the floor with beer and chocolate cake as he watched Mickey Mouse.
Robbie stood up and went into the kitchen to get something to eat, having been so used to being there all the time she would look in the fridge and on the shelves over and over again until she found something appetizing. Pony followed the girl he was smitten to ever since he met her. "I like your hair, by the way," Robbie spoke as she looked in the fridge and opened the containers that contained food. "Blonde makes you look older, but I'll still always love your brown hair." She pulled out a container that was half full of leftover fried chicken from the other night when Robbie was staying.
As the food cooked in the microwave, Pony stared at the girl waiting impatiently for the chicken to be heated up. He thought she was so beautiful, he noticed the way her lips were mouthing the numbers on the microwave as she counted down the seconds as she leaned against the counter, the way her leg bounced rapidly. Ponyboy Curtis admired everything about her, and Melanie Roberts admired everything about him.
The microwave went off and she hurriedly opened it and got out the food, giving it time to cool off before she ate. Robbie looked over at the blonde boy. "What?"
The boy just smiled at her. "You get excited over food," She raised a brow at him. "It's cute." Robbie's face heated up as she took a bite of the chicken in her hand, not caring that it still burnt her tongue. "Thanks, you're cute, too." They were quiet for a second.
"Did you mean what you said in the letter? You like me more than a friend?" This caused the Roberts girl's face to darken the already pink color on her face.
