Kai's P.O.V.

1989

She was late. She was never late. Annoyance shot through me as I leaned against the brick wall. A group of students laughed as they pushed their way out the doors. Quickly scanning the group I came to the conclusion Y/n wasn't among them. Unlike many other people, the Y/H/C was a tolerable sidekick. I pursed my lips knowing very well I was free from the emotion of love but there was something about my childhood friend. Possession. She was mine, my person, my companion.  And right now she was taking too damn long.

I sighed, pushing myself into an upright position before pulling open the heavy double doors and ducking inside.

"With that Malachai kid, again" The tone was mocking but my ears perked up at her name. I strolled leisurely down the hall as I located where the voices were coming from.

"Yes, what of him?" Her voice was a growl and I came to a halt, tucking myself into a corner to eavesdrop.

Y/n's P.O.V.

I knew Kai would be wondering where I was but I had been stopped in the hall by a trio of girls in my afternoon class.

"Y/n, come to lunch with us." The way she phrased it was more of a demand than a question.

"I have plans." I shrugged them off, tossing my bag over my shoulder.

"With that Malachai kid, again?" There was a sneer on her face as I came to a stop in the hall to look back at her. Her 2 sidekicks bickering behind her, their shared brain cell must be taking the day off.

"Yes, what of him?" I tilted my head in a warning, one she clearly missed.

"Why do you hang around with him? He's such a freak." I felt my anger begin to boil.

"Don't call him that." I said through clenched teeth.

"Oh, you can't be serious. He's completely unhinged! Yet I always see you stuck to his side, every waking minute." My hands were balled into fists, my nails digging into my palms.

"If you value your box-dyed hair you'll shut your mouth and walk away while you can." She looked scandalized at the comment on her hair. She was always bragging that it was 100% natural, of course anyone could see it was a lie.

"Oh, I get it. You're just as much of a psycho as he is." She glared and I felt something inside me snap. I lunged forward, grabbing her arm and twisting until I could knock her to the ground. She hissed in pain as I pinned her down, her friends watching wide-eyed.

"Here's how this is going to go, if you ever so much as look at Malachai the wrong way I'll remove your spine and wear it like a necklace." I spoke clearly as panic flashed in her eyes.

"Got it?" I glanced at the other 2 who were doing nothing to help their flailing friend. All 3 nodded frantically.

"Come on, use your words." I pressed my knee harder into her back until she let out a small cry.

"Yes!" When she finally squeaked the word I climbed off her, watching as the small group ran down the hall to try and get away from me.

"I don't think I'm a very good influence on you." I heard the smooth tone in his voice as I cracked a crooked grin and turned to face him.

"Oh no, you're the worst." I took a step towards him while he picked up the bag that I had dropped, a malicious grin on his face.

"I wouldn't have it any other way." He put my bag on his shoulder and draped his arm around me in a possessive manner.
