It's better to keep things distant
Past has passed, the future uncontrollable
Present is here, but not where I wanted to be
And so it's better to be aloof, to keep your eyes forward
Enjoy the thought of tomorrow rather than admit your sad self
It's better to keep them distant
The screens and sites agree
For all bodily things we cannot control, there is a filter;
A trick of the light to tone, tuck, highlight and heighten
And in the effort of hiding faults we have found
We will never let another seemingly perfect being close
Because it requires full disclosure of imperfection
It's better to be distant
