Chapter 43: Sister Lily

[It appeared as though humanity would be destroyed by demons. But a single mage saved them all. He was called the wizard king, and he became a legend.]

Asta POV:

"A-Asta," Noelle speaks softly, "d-do you have to hold on so tightly?"

The tone of her voice is oddly seductive. However, given the situation, It isn't the time for me to be thinking like this. "What do you mean 'why am I holding on so tight?' You barely have control of your broom!" I scream at the top of my lungs as we zoom past the nearby treetops, barely managing to dodge them. "I thought we practiced this together!"

"What! After twenty seconds, we crashed and had fun under that tree!"

I feel my face get hot as I'm reminded of that day. I told her we could practice, and we ended up messing around together, and I had to carry her back! How could I forget? 

Noelle continues to whiz past the trees, weaving and bobbing, barely dodging branches and other obstacles. 

"Go higher, Noelle. You're gonna kill us before we get there! I don't want to die today!"

"What! I'm not gonna kill us," she shouts back adamantly, "I-I got this. Just wait and see." She says, looking back at me, trying to appear confident. However, dread is painted all over her face, and nothing but an unconfident smile remains. I definitely should've told Finral to take us. However, I refrain from telling this to Noelle.

After a few more minutes of struggling, Noelle finally pulls up and gets us out of the tree line. Now, it's a smooth ride. Noelle looks back at me, smiling, "you see, I told you I got it. Just believe in your amazing girlfriend." 

"Haha yeah," I smile awkwardly as I pull the twigs and leaves from my hair and clothes. 

"By the way, Asta, how much further do we have left to go?"

I look around at our surroundings and realize the forest ends up ahead. Past the ending, I see the plains, along with Hage, come into view. "We should be there in about two minutes, I guess. As long as you don't crash," I add on wittingly.

"Oh, haha, Asta. I got us here in one piece. If I didn't take us, who would have?"

"We could've asked Finral or even Magna for a ride. In honestly, we would've gotten here a lot sooner."

"H-How dare you! Get off my broom now," Noelle screams as she starts to shove me away from her.

"Wait, no, I'm sorry, don't push me off!" However, It's too late. My grip on Noelle is too weak, and I fall, crashing down onto the ground below. 

"Ow ow ow ow," I say, rubbing my head.

"Asta? Are you alright? Why did you fall from the sky?" A familiar voice calls out to me.

I look up and see Sister Lily running over to me. "Sister Lily!" I spring up from the ground and run over to her. "Sister Lily! How are you," I say, stopping right before I run into her. "How's everyone else doing?" 

"I'm doing quite well, and so is everyone else." Sister Lily looks around the area, and confusion fills her face, "I thought you were coming with a friend? Where are they?"

"Oh, I actually fell from her broom. She should be landing soon," I say as I survey the skies. Finally, I spot her landing by a nearby hill. "There she is. Let's go walk over." 

Sister Lily and I walk over to where Noelle landed. When Noelle spots us, she hurries over. "Asta, are you okay? I didn't mean actually to push you off!" She says frantically, examining my body to see if I'm hurt. 

"I'm fine, Noelle. It'll take a lot more than that fall to hurt me," I laugh. 

Noelle lets out a sigh of relief as she realizes that I'm okay. She then turns her attention to Sister Lily, "By the way, whose the Sister?" 

"Oh," I say, perking up, "this is Sister Lily! She's the amazing Sister who raised both Yuno and me! And Sister Lily, This is Noelle, my-"

"Noelle! I've heard so much about you in Asta's letters! He talks about you nonstop! I'm so glad to meet you!" Sister Lily cuts me off and reaches for Noelle's hands, shaking them frantically. "I hope you'll be taking care of Asta from now on!"

Noelle's face turns a bright red at Sister Lily's words, "I-I-I I'll d-do my b-best!" Noelle responds, stuttering over her words. 

"Come, you two," Sister Lily says, practically dragging Noelle, "let's head over to the church right away."
