Poetry 4: I've Never Seen Myself

           They say I've never seen myself;
           the way I "should" be seen,
           the way the world dictated
           my dictionary mean;
           they said my eyes should filter;
           for me to see what's real,
           and my whole mouth be covered;
           then shall my worth be sealed;

           maybe they better know;
           maybe I've just been blind;
           maybe they see and feel me more;
           when their beliefs abide,

           never my eyes,
           never my honest flaws,
           never my lonely truth,
           discarded by their laws;
           now my life's rolling,
           on their hills;
           who's edges scraped
           away my skills;

           kept rolling over down;
           my aimless quickened pace,
           somewhere my dreams have never
           found,
           somewhere so loud their praise;

           their screams awakened souls;
           their cheers did echo;
           on densely crowded mountains,
           I can't say hello;
           their million words against
           my single sigh;
           never did mean to theirs;
           only on mine.
