EpilogueThe breeze caressed the beads of cold sweats as I looked up wearily. It blend in with the scenery, the best view that could never alter as the grass appears to darken in contrast. In the distance, the wind whistled, and the sound of trees swaying in response to its blow could be heard. The sun casted blindly a golden light upon the shadows of the clouds covering the field of Cagayan State University.
There was no knowing the rays of scorching sun would come into view which happens to be ideal time to play soccer. Although I'm not part of the soccer team, I have the infinitesimal interest in upgrading my athletic physique.
I slightly raised the corner of my brow, squeezing out a disappointed frown gracing on my face after passing the ball to Psalm. He seemed preoccupied to execute his infamous penalty kick.
If only I could press his ugly face on the ground, or perhaps, a penalty kick right on his nose. It does sound enticing. Unfortunately, I do not possess any authority.
Another set of the game began. Kuya Owen received the ball from Kuya Elijah. Blocking your opponent is pretty logical but Psalm loosened his guard to the point Elijah scored against him. I hate to admit but Psalm is expert when it comes to defense.
But what in the world did just happen?
"Nice one, Ej!" Kuya Owen shouted bashfully. Kuya Elijah raised his hand as his reply.
Owen jog towards me to keep his position on set.
"Damn, our Team Captain seems distracted." I heard him added.
He, then, nudge me his elbow with a mischievous smirk.
"I guess you'll be the loser today, Noah. Unless you apply physics here, try calculating the distance, eh?" the manner of speaking is trying to provoke me. His brows arching playfully.
I withhold the urge to roll my eyes.
"Kuya Owen," I called as he glanced at me with confusion, "In the dust of lingering defeat, there's always a room for victory. Remember that."
Without waiting for his response, I dash to the middle of the field and swoop down on Kuya Elijah's ball.
"Is that your language of calling me stupid, Noah?!" Owen exclaimed after the long silence.
"Well, aren't you?" I asked curiously.
From either a distance, Elijah started to laugh as Owen grunted in defeat.
I wonder why Kuya Owen is invited to play with us when I prefer Kuya Kai than him. He's so loud to the point I'll run out of peace of mind. It's unfortunate that I had no choice but to be patient with a nuisance.
Even after stealing the ball, Psalm failed to do his part as the offense.
Man, is he a moron?
I scoffed when my feeling high and mighty brother just pat my shoulder to apologize but I only dodge it.
"You're intentionally messing it up." I pointed out. It's all in the context of making him feel horrible.
Psalm lowered his gaze and heaved a sigh, "I know. Sorry."
"If you're truly sorry, make a score."
"I'm trying."
I rubbed the back of my neck, a little bit distress. My jaw clench firmly. A small wave of annoyance pushes at my chest.
"Then try harder." I mumbled coldly.
"What's the matter with you?"
"You should ask that to yourself. Not me."
