Chapter 44: Christmas Party

"Wow you look amazing Hermione" (Y/n) told her as she walked down the stairs. "Not that you don't usually look amazing but.. you just... I mean..." (Y/n) stuttered, causing Hermione to giggle.

"You look amazing as well babe" Hermione said, standing on her toes, and pulling (Y/n) down slightly so that she could plant a kiss on his cheek.

"I see you're going all in with the arsonist aesthetic" Hermione said eying him from the tip of his bangs to his shoes.

"Yeah well if you can't beat em join em" he said with a laugh.

"You know I quite like it" Hermione said slyly, with a wink. "Maybe you wont be the only thing that's hot tonight."

"Well then maybe we'll just have to leave this party early" (Y/n) flirted back coyly.

He leaned down and pulled her into a passionate kiss, one hand caressing her soft cheek and then other resting gently in the small of her back.

"Oh get a room" Harry said, causing them to break apart.

"Get outta here you creep!" (Y/n) yelled, pulling his arm off and chucking it at Harry's head.

Harry caught the arm, laughed and then headed out towards the portrait hole.

"Oi lend a hand will ya" (Y/n) back to Harry, who just lobbed the arm back to (Y/n).

"Well then, should we get to it then?" (Y/n) asked Hermione after reattaching his arm, and offering his hand to her.

She smiled and took his hand before they headed out the portrait hole after Harry and down to the dungeons.

They entered into Slughorn's office which appeared to be much larger than a normal teachers office.

"Woah this office is huge" Hermione said in awe. "It must've taken a powerful extension charm"

"It's not the only thing that's huge here" (Y/n) said nudging Hermione, causing her to blush a deep scarlet.

"Not the time" she muttered to him flustered.

"Oh well if you don't want to talk to Hagrid that's fine" (Y/n) and waving to the giant teacher, grinning smugly at Hermione.

The ceiling was covered in golds and emeralds, creating the illusion of the entire room being inside of a tent, which it very well could be given the size of Wizard tents.

The entire room was bathed in a warm light, that shone onto the ornate silver trays that were being carried around the room by various witches and wizards all dressed in the same suits, with waist high trays being carried by house-elves, creating the illusion of moving tables.

"I'm going to having a chat with Slughorn after this" (Y/n) muttered to Hermione. "He better be paying these elves fair wages for their work"

"Ah (Y/n) so good to see you, so good to see you" Slughorn said running up to him and vigorously shaking his hand.

"It's good to see you too professor" (Y/n) replied after having been throughly shaken. "This looks like a really good party."

"You are paying the house elves right?" (Y/n) asked him.

"Paying them? Well whatever for?" Slughorn asked him confused.

"What for? Because they are living creatures and they deserve rights too, they're not slaves!" (Y/n) scolded Slughorn.

"Ah yes I see you do have a point there. Well I'm glad you brought this up to me, now go enjoy yourselves" Slughorn told them, before waddling off to meet another guest.

"Well thens lets gets to a minglings" (Y/n) said to Hermione, as they walked into the main area of the office.

"Luna!" (Y/n) called out waving his arm in the air.

"Oh hello (Y/n). Hello Hermione" Luna said in her dreaming voice as she made her way over.

"Are you having fun?" (Y/n) asked her as he reattached his arm.

"Quite a bit actually" she said in her dreamy voice. "Although I do seem to have misplaced Harry someone"

"Eh he's a bit of a git anyway he doesn't even enjoy a good party" (Y/n) said rolling his eye.

Luna giggled. "It's a bit sad without the DA this year." Luna added out of the blue.

"Yeah it really is, ever think of doing like a reunion meeting?" (Y/n) asked turning the Hermione.

"We could" Hermione said sounding a bit hesitant, (Y/n) knew this was because of the amount of work that she had to do.

"I tried to go back to the room of requirement yesterday" Luna said in her dreamy voice. "It wouldn't open for me... maybe someone doesn't want to be disturbed. Oh there are some Nargles over there, I'll see you around"

And with that Luna walked away.

"She's very odd isn't she" Hermione commented, watching as her silvery spangled robes disappeared between two old look warlock, who had a large purple cloud of smoke floating around their heads.

"True, she's always just saying things out of the blue, her mind really does just jump around." (Y/n) said, also looking at the spot where Luna had disappeared into the crowd. "But she is very smart, and one of a kind. She's sorta like a little sister to me you know. If anything happens to her..." he mimed slitting someone's throat.

"You really are protective of those you care about (Y/n)" Hermione said, taking his hand in her own.

"Yeah I try to be, I don't want to lose anyone else important to me."

"Oooooh is that a vampire!!" (Y/n) shouted suddenly getting distracted and running across the room.

Hermione smiled and shook her head. "Always the same, he's got his head in the clouds that one" she muttered to herself, watching him as he entertained a large crowd of people, making a large wave of fire dance around the room, before transforming into different animals.

Just then Hermione heard a cocky sickening voice from behind her "Hello they sweetheart, enjoying your time at this party? Because it's about to get a lot better"
