ghostly. that's how it felt. school, home, life. that night, when ryan torres took heather watkins' life, he took our innocence, too. only the ghosts of our naivety remained. nothing's ever really innocent in shadyside, however. we always knew we were cursed. deep down. it was once thought of as a myth. a joke. but when your chemistry lab partner is brutally stabbed to death by her best friend, jokes aren't funny anymore.

it really was only a matter of time, until another tragedy. although it's hardly a tragedy when it happens every week. living in a town like shadyside, where murder was like second nature, gets boring. fast. the lines between fact and fiction, curse and coincidence, good and bad, were always blurry. the one thing lisa astle was sure about was that evil existed. it lived beneath, around, and inside shadyside. it was disguised as good, but it's mask was slipping.

''what are you doing tonight?''
