~Mal's P.O.V~

Aris holds my hand and shows me the place where our date will be.

Right by the old building is a picnic area. A yellow checkered blanket is laid out with an assortment of food and sparking cider. My eyes widen in amazement as Aris interrupts my thoughts.

"You like it?"

I smile and look at him, "Yeah, it's beautiful." He grabs my hands and takes me with him as he walks to the area. "Come on, don't want it all to go to waste." A laugh escapes our lips as we walk down to the area.

I wish Evie or Y/N could see this.

"Watch your foot. Yeah. Are you good?" I smile as I keep following him. "Yep." I pop the p at the end of my sentence, smiling as I do it. "Now, step up. There you go." I feel Ben's arms wrap around my waist, and I can sense the nervousness in his voice.

"You ready?"

I nod and reply, "As ready as I'll ever be."

"Open."

My eyes are blessed with the most elegant setting I could ever dream of: an old podium with a picnic area set up with a few chairs and other assortments. I gasp in awe as I look at Ben. He plants a kiss on my forehead, and I smile even brighter. "Go on."

I walk towards the area and look at everything there. Most of it was blue—how thoughtful. I sit on the picnic blanket and get lost in my thoughts.

I need to get back on track with what Mal, Evie, Carlos, and Jay are planning. I was supposed to follow them, and I don't know if this warm, fuzzy feeling was supposed to happen, too.

After eating these things called donuts, which are very sweet, I wipe my fingers on my napkin and smile at Ben.

"Is this your first time?" I sigh and sort of frown at his words. "Sort of... it's never really long-lasting, though." Ben laughs a bit, and I raise my eyebrow in response. "Um, I meant, is this your first time eating a jelly donut?" I slightly laugh and grab a napkin to wipe my mouth.

"You make it sound like a bad thing."

We laugh as he wipes a small crumb off the corner of my mouth. I smile at him, and Ben adjusts his posture. "You know, I've done all the talking. Your turn. I really don't know that much about you. Tell me something."

I sigh as I think about what to respond with. "I'm 16, an only child. I've struggled to find out who I really am." I look slightly down as Ben gently tilts my chin up with his hand. I look at him, and I feel him lean in.

Uh, what do I do? "And now you're gonna be king!" Ben leans back, negating his action, and looks down. "Yeah."

"What is it?" "A crown doesn't make you a king." I slightly laugh and think. "Well, that's why royalty exists, cause of crowns. It sort of does." I shift my posture to focus more on our conversation, but I can't shake the warm feeling from earlier off from me.
