I spend Thanksgiving and Christmas with Chris's family and we say no more about me going to New York to see Sebastian. Things are fine between us but for some reason they feel awkward. He is more careful about hugging and he seems extra careful about touching me when we watch movies together. On the night of Christmas, he asks me to come to follow him. Every year we go to his childhood bedroom and exchange gifts just the two of us.

He closes the door behind him. "Merry Christmas." He wraps me in a hug. He seems to hesitate, holding on longer than he normally would. When he pulls away he hands me a small box.

I hand him his present. "You go first Chris."

We sit on the bed next to each other. He smiles at me and opens his present. I can tell he really likes it. "It's so great! Did you do this?"

I drew him a picture of him as Captain America and Dodger as The Winter Soldier. "I did. Do you like it?"

"I love it!" He hugs me again and kisses me on the cheek. He points to his present to me.

I open the box to find a jewelry box inside. He's never bought me jewelry before. I look up at him surprised and he just nods to the box. I open it and find a necklace with a silver heart pendant. On the heart are two diamond crusted initials; SC. "Chris, this is too much."

"They're- um . . it's your initials. I thought you would like it."

"It's beautiful Chris." I stand up and grab his hand to pull him up. I wrap my arms around him and he pulls me in close. He whispers in my ear, his breath hot on my neck, "Merry Christmas Sam."

I pull away. "You too Chris." He grabs the necklace from me and motions for me to turn around. I grab my hair and hold it up as he delicately places it around my neck. I feel him run a finger from my neck down my shoulder before clearing his throat and pulling away.

"We should go back out and join the rest of the family."

He opens the door and I grab his hand as he walks away. He turns to face me. "Thank you so much Chris, I really love it."

He brings his hand up and gently grabs the pendant, "it looks really great on you." He lets go of the pendant and steps closer to me, he puts his hand on my cheek. He seems to want to say more but he doesn't. The whole world seems to stand still for a moment. Suddenly we are startled by my phone ringing, it makes me jump. He puts his hand down, "you should get that," and he walks away.

I look down at my phone and see Sebastian wants to face time. I shut the door and sit on the bed and answer.

"Sebastian. Hi! Merry Christmas!"

'Hey! How are you? Having a good holiday?'

"I am, you? At your mom's?"

'Yes. So, you coming to New York for New Years Eve? Do I need to talk to your boss?'

We laugh. "No, you don't have to talk to him. I'm looking forward to it Sebastian."

'Yeah? That's great! I can't wait to see you. I have to go. I'll see you soon.'

"Bye Sebastian."

I walk back out to the kitchen and only find Scott, Chris's brother.

"Where is everyone?"

"They're out back watching the snow." He points to my necklace, "I like the bling."

I laugh at him. He's always been the brother I always wanted. "Thanks, it's from Chris. It's my initials."

"Yeah, they could also mean Sam and Chris."

I look down at the necklace. "That's just silly Scott. That would imply-."

"That would imply he has feelings for you? I heard you're going visiting Sebastian for New Years Eve."

I'm confused. "Um, yeah. I am. And Chris doesn't have feelings for me." I laugh.

"You keep telling yourself that. Why would he be jealous of Sebastian then?"

I start to get angry, feeling the fire welling in my gut. "You don't know what you are talking about Scott. There is nothing between Chris and me. And believe me, I've waited. He doesn't want me. He has no right to be jealous because Sebastian asked me out. If he even is." I storm off and leave before he says anything else. I go into the kitchen, thinking about what Scott implied. There was no way Chris could have had feelings for me. We were in our thirties, almost 40, he had plenty of time to say something before now. He had no right to be jealous now, not after all this time.
