She looked out of the aeroplane window, as she slowly descended to the ground. She knew she had pushed it too far, and she hadn't actually believed her father was serious until she was boarding the flight. She was about to land in Outer Banks and be introduced to her new life.

Once the plane was on the ground and all checks had been done, she got to her feet and followed her father off of the plane. He hadn't said a single word to her the entire flight, keeping his vow of silence promise in place.

It was kind of nice. It was the first time they had spent hours in each others presence without erupting into an argument of some form.

As she stepped off of the plane, she was instantly greeted with the heat that came with it. The plane was only a smaller one, and they could've quite easily taken the private jet, but her father refused to allow her the luxury of that.

She had tried to reason with him, get him to change his mind, but nothing worked. He had made his decision, and had already made the arrangements with her grandparents for her to come and stay. She remembered hearing their words over the end of the phone. "It's about time," her grandmother had stated, the annoyance clear in her voice.

"You've had no control over that girl since Leslie died. You should've cut off her allowance the second you lost control!" Her grandfather added. He never liked the idea that her parents gave her whatever she wanted. They believed it just taught kids to be greedy and not appreciate the simple things that they have in life.

She always hated how condescending they were, seeing as they did the same for her father.

She shook off the thoughts, and continued following her father until they reached baggage claim. They collected her luggage, and moved out of the building, finding the rent-a-car that her father had ordered. Her grandparents would've met them at the airport, but they were busy arranging the house for her arrival.

The car ride was as silent as the plane journey, if not more. Alana had expected her father to talk to her by now, but he was serious with his vow of silence. She fiddled with the radio, but none of the stations satisfied her.

She scoffed and pulled out her phone, but to her dismay, she had no service. She rolled her eyes and placed her device back into her purse, looking out of her window. She rested her chin on the palm of her hand, leaning on the door. She looked around, noticing that they were driving through what looked like a homeless shelter, only outdoors. All of the house were battered and damaged, and she shivered. She couldn't imagine living in such poverty.

As they made their way through the town, the houses slowly began growing and becoming grander. The deeper they went, the bigger the houses were, until they finally pulled up outside of her grandparents house. They stood on the front porch, smiles resting on both of their faces.

She sighed and climbed out, looking around. She could get used to this, over time. She refused to grab her luggage, and instead just walked towards the house. Lana's grandmother held her arms open, expecting a hug from her granddaughter whom she hadn't seen for many years, but instead, Lana walked right past her and headed straight down the dock leading from the house.

She heard the odd comment from her grandparents, expressing how rude she was, but she brushed it off, not caring what they thought.

She walked further down the dock, taking in all of the boats that were floating on the water. There were seats at the end that she placed herself on, and took in the view. It was beautiful, she had to admit, but she just wanted to go home.

She sat there for a while, attempting to get service every few minutes, but still nothing. She assumed the cell towers were down. Apparently there had been some sort of hurricane or something the night before. There was damage to a few of the houses, but her grandparents seemed untouched to her, which was a bonus because it meant that she didn't have to do any form of labour.
