Ever since being a part of the CBI, joining around the same time VanPelt did, you and the renowned consultant, Patrick Jane, became fast friends. Though his admired skills are of course far beyond your own mental capabilities, you both share a quick wit and observant eye, as well as deep rooted intuition. On cases, things he notices, you often notice at the same time or even before. There've been a few moments that you take great pride in, when you announce a deduction a split second before Jane. Lisbon's praise is worth a lot, but Jane's frustration and pouty faced defeat is definitely the real win.

Going on three years, you and Jane have been close. Red John killed someone in your family. The murder was in no related to you. Just another of Red John's classic killings. It was your cousin, early twenties, lived alone, vulnerable...you got the call from your aunt. At the time, you hadn't been involved in the Red John case. You were part of the local Sac PD but your research on Red John following your cousin's death led to your desire to join the CBI where you'd be more likely to help track down California's very own elusive serial killer. Under that 'light hearted' circumstance, you wound up joining Lisbon's team where you met Jane. He immediately analysed you....

Pointing out your favorite fruit, the state of your childhood, your highschool click and your cousin's death.

The latter he read out of a Red John file.

You'd read about him too.

If that didn't serve as an immediate connection, your shared quick thinking, love of tea, western literature, and little children did.

Through all of that; through the usual rollercoaster of friendship, getting into small fights, having the biggest highs and shouldering one another's weight through the deepest lows, it all took an exciting turn the day you and Jane fell asleep on his couch together.

The offices were empty, you and him were staying late, working on the newest Red John case. A man. Ever since his first retaliation killing, the night when Jane lost his family and his purpose in this cruel world, Red John's 'pattern' has gone with the wind. He no longer preys on vulnerable young women. No. He kills whoever, whenever, wherever. As long as there is thought put into each murder, and a bloody smiley on the wall, it's Red John. He's getting bolder, more dangerous. His anger and ability to grow outside of his original style is slightly terrifying. Back five months ago, on the couch, a little past midnight, it was deeply upsetting. Both you and Jane couldn't bear to waste a second sleeping while Red John was out there, getting revenge on those who could testify to his identity.

As the tea chilled and the case files slacked in your hands, you and Jane passed into a cold sleep. Hard as a brick wall, slathered in black paint; a solid abyss.

And when you woke up?

Instead of your neck being locked in an uncomfortable position, your cheek was resting against something soft. It rose and fell beneath you. A breathing pillow? Your opened your eyes and saw your hand, laid a centimeter from your nose, atop of Jane's vest.

VanPelt looked up from her computer and flashed a sweet smile, knowing yet subtle.

Cho was busy at his desk but Lisbon and Rigsby hovered over you and Jane.
