About the dark

People I know ask, What is so bad about the dark?
Nothing, I say, it's comfortable.
It feels like home.
The light's too crowded.
It's filled with hopeless romantics
and fools who believe there are forces at work for them.
Realists watch them from the darkest parts of their minds;
and laugh bitterly.

In the dark, its all figured out.
There are rules, a code to live by.
Unconditional love doesn't exist,
Kindness was never selfless,
Love is never real.
Being "human" is a nonexistent notion.
The light is filled with false innocence and pretend false hope.
Just people trying to hold on to nothing
Filling a void with yet another void, hoping something would eventually stick;
and they would feel less empty inside.
In the dark, it is simpler.
We give it into darkness, so it consumes us.
We look out for ourselves when others pretend to look out for others and loose themselves in the process, without realising it.
We get used to the loneliness, and its never too lonely.
Sure, our souls loose the imaginatiory light,
But we have control, control over our pain because we did it to ourselves.
The pain is anticipated.
Its easier when you love it rather than fight it.
Just breathe, put a fake face on and pretend to care, play cool, observe, realise, go back to the comfy space in your head and repeat.
Its a vicious cycle, we created it. We'll love it.

I used to believe that,
Until the darkness got unbearable.
The walls of my mind closing on me with nothing but guilt and memories,
I once ran away from, instead of face.

The steel door where we keep the darkest part of ourselves in,
just burst open.
We have no control anymore.
Everything came in waves and its not anticipated anymore.
A wave of pain, a wave of guilt, a wave of remorse, a wave of memory we'd rather not have.
They take turns as we sit in the dark corner of our minds, drowning with each one silently.
Our silence is cry for help but noone dares to listen, because we did that.
We taught them not to listen.
We taught ourselves to keep it all in
Now that I think of it, the people in the lighots as cowards for refusing to just let go and embrace,
But what if Im the coward?, for not fighting harder to hold on?
