Ferrer's POV
"Is it good?""Very good." I commended my father for the chicken dish he has made to take to Cole's dinner. "I told you it's not necessary. He has a gourmet chef."
"I know a man of his stature must afford someone to labor in his kitchen. But I'm just a simple old man who only knows how to do things the old way. When someone invites you to their house for a meal-"
"Take something small." I finished the sentence. My mother used to say that. We looked away from each other. That's a sore subject. "Do you miss her?"
"Every single day."
"I don't remember her face. At some point, I forgot what she looks like. I don't remember her voice, but I keep telling myself I'll remember if I ever meet anyone who sounds like her. That is yet to happen. Let's go."
When I invited him to come with me to Cole's place, he turned me down. I encouraged him to come. I don't want any ill feelings towards anyone. Life is too short for that. It's time to fix things with him.
Cole's house is a walk away from mine.
Someone else will be coming to that party; Nick.
The day I got back, I went to his office. He wasn't in. I tried his home. He wasn't in. He hasn't been around and I'm curious as to whether he's playing a cat and mouse game with me or I'm probably overthinking.
I have a lot of time to think.
I quit the hospital.
I'm mostly at home or at most when the day use eventful at the Pharmaceutical company or The Oncology Center. Besides that, I have a lot of time to think and my thoughts are not pretty. I wouldn't let anyone into my mind right now because of how dark and messed up it has become.
"Your friends are Cole, Theo, Miki, the English one... Uh... Toby and Bruce."
"Dad no!" I laughed. "It's Tony and Nick. Not Miki and Toby."
"How embarassing! Cole is the hotelier."
"Yes."
"Tony is the English one."
"Not much of a talking point but yeah. He curses a lot so don't get offended if he says something to you."
"Alright. Bruce is the army man."
"Yes."
I approached the driveway and slowed down so that he can keep up. "Theo is..."
"A complication. But Keira's ex husband." I purposely told him that because Nick hates to be reminded that Theo and Kei had a marriage. If anything I have more to feed my dad just to get on Nick's nerves. "He is the father of Keira's twins. He's grateful to Theo for the job well done."
He wants talking points so that he doesn't feel odd. "Okay."
"And Marcelle adores Theo!" I threw that in there. "Uh! Do you want to know a secret?"
"What?"
"It's a mess of wires in that house! So, Cole's wife is Nick's ex. Sinclair's love interest is Cole's sister and Nick's ex. Keira was Nick's mistress, became Sinclair's wife then Nick's wife and now they are divorced."
"Oh my! How are they friends with this Nick character? He sounds-"
"Selfish? Yup." I rang the door bell. "We are all ticking time bombs."
"Hello!" Naila beamed at me when she opened the door.
"Hi. My dad, Gustavo. Dad, this is Naila, Cole's wife."
