Thirty Three

Ruby grips her scythe tightly as she keeps swinging it around her. She doesn't miss any of her attacks on the demons. More and more abyssal demons lunge towards her in every direction. For her first time joining a real war, she's doing well for keeping up with it.

As she's battling with the demons, she has been thinking about whether can she absorb the dark abyssal magic as well. Ruby tries to recall how she absorbs the holy light magic during the sparring with the queen. She thinks she just needs to allow the scythe to naturally do it with her consent. Still, she needs to practice it to master it. Besides, she did it only once.

As Ruby swings her scythe, she tries to absorb the demons' abyssal magic as well. For her first try, she fails. She will keep trying until she can identify how to do it- though this is not the perfect time to try it out.

She is in the middle of the battlefield, it is a little hard for her to do it- with demons that keep lunging in her direction, she needs some more time to concentrate. The hooded girl is a little bit distracted as she focuses on her scythe more.

"No, no, don't you dare to lay your filthy hand on my beloved Ruby" said Alucard as he leaps in her direction and slices the demons. Ruby eyes widen as he comes to her rescue. She doesn't notice the demons that tried to attack her- probably she's too focused on her scythe.

"Be careful, you are a bit distracted" said Alucard as they stand back to back with each other. They grip the weapon firmly in their hand as their eyes looking at their enemies who comes in their direction.

"Thank you, Alucard. But hey, can you do me some favour?" asked Ruby as she gracefully swinging her scythe around- as if she's dancing in the middle of the battlefield. She needs him to cover her when she tries to absorb the abyssal magic.

"What is it?" he said as he is busy with the abyssal demons that keeps coming to him. His hand doesn't stop moving as he slashes every demon that comes in his way.

"Back me up for a moment, I am doing some experiments right now" she said as she tries to absorb the dark abyssal magic with her scythe once again yet she still fails. She needs to concentrate more. An eyebrow of the guy lifts with her request.

"Experiments in the middle of the battlefield?" he said as he takes a quick glance at her- disbelief. He doesn't know what she's planning.

"Yes, I'm trying to absorb their abyssal magic. I'm sorry for the trouble" she said as she tries it once again. She will keep doing it. She just needs a person to give her a backup.

"I see, take your time," he said without thinking much as he kills another demon that lunges towards them. Even if she doesn't ask him to back her up, he is still going to protect her.

Ruby takes a deep breath as she shifts her concentration fully on her scythe- she trusts Alucard to protect her. She calms herself down as she takes a deep breath. The hooded girl raises her scythe. She collects her strength as she tries to absorb their dark magic once again.

The dark abyssal magic from the nearest demons around Alucard and her slowly disappear, hence making their movement and damage decrease. She astonishes with her own little achievement. Ruby smiles as she is satisfied with it. She finally did it after several trials.

"Hey, it works! My scythe can absorb both light and dark magic. Thank you for your assistance Alu!" she said with a cheerful tone despite the chaotic situation- yet she still defends herself from the demons attack.

"Great job, Ruby! I can feel it is easier for me to finish them off" said Alucard as he effortlessly slashes the abyssal creature.

"Though I only absorb a little abyssal magic from them. I don't know what happens if I absorb them until they dry" she said as she cuts another demon in half. Since it's her first time doing it, she doesn't want to go overboard.

Once again, Ruby absorbs some of their magic before she slashes them. She agrees with what Alucard said, it does make it much easier for her to destroy the demon- as if make them more fragile.

"I don't have much knowledge about your scythe but I hope you're not overdoing it. We still don't know what it will do to the user- it can even harm you" he said with concern. It does make him easier to fight but he doesn't want to take any risk- especially when it's involving the girl.

"I know. Thank you for the reminder anyway. I'll stop if I start to feel strange" she said. They still standing back to back with each other, fighting the abyssal demons together. With the combination of Ruby's natural ability of her scythe and Alucard's skills, they manage to slain most of their enemy.

As Ruby and Alucard continue to move forward, an abyssal arrow launches in their direction. Both of them swiftly dodge it as they look at the one who fired the abyssal arrow.

"I'm sorry handsome guy, but she's under my watch" said the abyssal witch as she walks to them calmly with strong dark abyssal magic in both of her hands. The witch greet them with a sweet smile plastered on her face.

"It's Selena. She's one of the closest people to the blood demon Queen, Alice" said Alucard to Ruby as he knows the abyssal witch identity. The two of them grip their weapon tight as they put their guard up. Ruby studies the witch appearance- Selena does seem familiar to her but she can't recall anything about it.

"Oh! Bingo! The handsome guy knows me. I'm honoured" she said as she claps her hand with excitement.

"Now, leave the girl to me" said Selena with her demonic voice as she looks at them with a manic smile.

Alucard gets ready to leap forward, wanting to attack the witch but Ruby sticks out her arm in front of him- stopping him.

"It's fine. You should go and help the others. You are way more important than me. I can handle this, okay? Trust me" she said as she looks at him with promising eyes.

"But-"

"Alucard your back!" said Ruby- cutting his word. Ruby quickly blocks the attack that comes to their position as soon as she notices it.

"You little girl shouldn't have tried to protect him or I would accidentally hurt you. That was close. Back off okay, my dear Ruby? Stay with Selena" said the guy who fired the attack on Alucard earlier.

Both the sword and the scythe user shift their gaze to look at the guy as they said his name in perfect unison,

"Dyrroth"
